When two cool bands become one awesome band...

I was just listening to some live stuff of the newish harsh noise trio sanquine piss. really cool, really heavy, hissing, static, looping, all that stuff would you expect, but from a refreshing punk angle. they apparently formed out of two other bands; antler piss (who i know and were pretty great) and sanguine (who i dont know).

it just made me start thinking, what were some other times bands came together and made some awesome music.

the wolf eyes and smegma collab as the beast comes to mind.

im lost for thinking of examples of this.

^^^ definitely.

the ex/tortoise.
residents/renaldo and the loaf.

...I can't think of any right now for some reason..

Nurse With Wound/Stereolab
Psyclones/Schlafengarten

It's easier to think of offshoots than involve most of the personnel from two bands, like The Teargarden et al than it is to think of full on "This Band/That Band" releases.

Yes.

These aren't strictly the coming together of two bands but:

Harmonia (Cluster + Neu dude)
Fursaxa when she used to have the guys from Bardo Pond backing her.

fugazifan 01.19.2009 10:48 AM

brian eno+ david byrne
not sure if that counts

batreleaser 01.19.2009 10:56 AM

Some of you are going to laugh at me for this, but I find them really good: !!! evolved from two bands
(I prefer Out Hud though)

whoever says melvins and big business gets bitch slapped.

reasons:

a) the melvins were already an awesome band.

b) big business turned into shit after joining with buzz and dale.

ratm & soundgarden?

afterthefact 01.19.2009 03:42 PM

I thought this was about two bands actually becoming one band, but now it seems to be more about two bands doing an album together, so I submit this:

merzbow/ladybird

Funny side note... when I did a search for this to find the album cover pic, the first hit on Google was for a thread about this album on this board, and it was started by me :) haha

wish I could rep myself...

NNCK and Träd, Gräs och Stenar
Sun City Girls and Eugene Chadbourne
Plagal Grind (i guess more of a supergroup rather than a pairing of two bands)
Christina Onna 23
Camper Van Chadbourne
Melvins of Flies
Rake/Pelt Orchestra
