alva noto
I've recently acquired every single thing alva noto has ever been involved in. All of this stuff is truly excellent.. digital minimalism.. his stuff with ryuichi sakamoto in particular is amazing...
I saw him playing with Sakamoto at the Barbican a few years ago. Was pretty sedate in parts, but that shit rocked when it got round to rocking.
I will listen.
I dunno if it'd be your thing, Derek. I figured Glice would love it though.
fuckshit
THANKS for reminding me of this |
He makes a lot of his music from electricty and xerox machines and shit. Really abstract digital minimalism usually but not always. His collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto (Japanese piano player) are really amazing.
i had this album, transspray, and i had totally forgotten about it until i saw this post...
great noisy shit love it... downloading some ryoji ikeda right now. the 'test pattern album' http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jtfLSpdOY6...ikeda+blog.jpg |
good choice!
i like the little i've heard from his label (raster noton) but i saw a raster noton show a few years back and it was pretty boring live. yasunao tone played too and he was AWFUL.
His early stuffs are better.
the second album with sakamoto and the live album is awful. it is reasonable why most people like them, it is easy listening. |

I'm gonna name a song that actually... Music is pretty cool. |
Anyone check out his new album? Thoughts?
Ok so we aren't talking about that guy from the 80's who had the long ass video and said his own name in his song?

No no, it's a solo release called For 2. Interested to hear if it's worth checking out.
