Rock Doc about Drugs through the Decades on Tonight
on vh1 at 9 pm and again at 1 am.
It looked really interesting from the preview. It showed them making fun of the "reefer madness" movie, people tripping out on lsd in the 60s at "freakouts", people doing coke and heroin.Plus henry rollins was one of the people commenting on the special. anyone else heard about this, it looks good. |
well ive realized now its a 4-part series so you can catch the third part tonight at 9 or the entire thing on thursday from 6-10pm.
This was actually really well done(maybe because it was done in collaboration with sundance). They show the growth of the drug culture in america starting the 60s and all these hilarious propaganda movies. They talk a lot about lsd and then they talked about how the counterculture started being commercialized and how the 60s just died after altamont and the manson murders. Tonight is gonna be about drug culture in the 70s and thursday it will be about the 80s. Watch it, this is good stuff. |
Ray Manzarek looked like a fool.

I never claimed otherwise. |
This was a pretty cool series so far. Very comprehensive. I like how all these well-read and knowledgeable people are able to come out and say that people over reacted to the grug craze. Not that the scene and the substances themselves didnt have thier dark side, but they weren't what the mass media made them to be. Taking acid and smoking pot every once in a while won't make you a drug addict and it won't make you go crazy and it won't fry yr brain.

Yeah, he did look weird. Like a 14 year old kid with his jelled spikey hair and his tee shirt. He's a weirdo. I don't really like him all that much. But he still had some valuable input. |
I thought it was pretty cool to see Richard Belzer on it though. And Liz Phair, too.

I too wanted to do some lsd, peyote and shrooms. It made me pine for the 60's. Even though I was never there. |
Oh, by the way, the series will also be aired on Sundance channel on Thursday and Saturday without censorship and without commercials.
|
I love the footage of MC5. That was just too cool.

It seems pretty well done so far. The talking heads they have for each installment seem appropriately chosen.
Rollins should be on by Thursday. I wonder if he'll talk about his LSD experiences, haha. |
