the shaggs

anyone else enjoy them?

atsonicpark 10.09.2008 12:26 AM

yeah. philosophy of the world is a masterpiece, one of the best albums i've ever heard.

I can definitely hear a big shaggs influence in deerhoof (who covered my pal foot foot)...

you should put it as one of your classic albums.

i was thinking of doing just one "uhler classic album" list but i suck at describing shit.

atsonicpark 10.09.2008 12:28 AM

I suck at it too haha.

uhler 10.09.2008 12:43 AM

you do a much better job than i do.

PAULYBEE2656 10.09.2008 02:00 PM

the shaggs rule in their own little unruling way....

love em.

Glice 10.09.2008 02:11 PM

One of the greatest bands ever to walk the planet, if only because no-one else has ever pulled off being amazing while also being crap.

Glice 10.09.2008 02:11 PM

That is in reference to Deerhoof, by the way.

jon boy 10.09.2008 07:19 PM

i love them. as soon as i heard them they were in my top ten and always will be.

batreleaser 10.09.2008 07:22 PM

i think everyone likes them, no? well i do.

batreleaser 10.09.2008 07:24 PM

i can hear a shaggs influence all fucking over the new siltbreeze lo fi noise pop bands. sic alps, psychedelic horseshit (well kind), the oh sees, not on siltbreeze, ok, no arguement here, never mind. pretty much the shaggs proved you could record through shit and still make classic albums.

atsonicpark 10.09.2008 08:43 PM

true.

Actually the last time they were brought up around here quite a few people dissed them pretty hard. Most of those folks have either recently made a statement about leaving the board or just haven't been around much. They don't seem to go over real well with the prog rock crowd...

I certainly appreciate the Shaggs and figure they're existence made a lot of people find the nerve to try and make music at least as much as the Ramones or the Pistols ever did. I can't say I'd sit around listening to them all that often, however. But I can think of many worse bands that people take seriously.

batreleaser 10.10.2008 03:12 PM

which prog rock crowd? magma prog, rush prog, or dream theatre prog? as you can see, those three crowds make up the difference between people into weird music to straight up idiots. that might sound stereotypical, but all hardcore dream theatre fans ive met have been straight up morons.

Well, I was talking about this board, so I don't think Dream Theatre is even a faint possibility.

atsonicpark 10.11.2008 07:04 AM

Hahah I'm into Magma/Ruins/etc/etc/etc/etc Zeuhl (I can't spell) prog.

I still think The Shaggs are genius.
