who's a better drummer to you?

Brian Chippendale is unbelievable at drumming; my favorite! My brother brought Lightning Bolt to his Ottawa noisefest a few years ago and I was too young and didn't like Noise back then, so I didn't get to see him live. Brian Gibson's also one of my favorite bassists, and Ben Koller is a really good drummer.

Chippendale, but in fairness, I've heard more of LB stuff then Ruins.

I love them both, and I like Lightning Bolt more than I like Ruins, but I think Yoshida Tatsuya has more technical ability.

of course not, you have to be deaf to think lightning bolt sound like ruins.

ruins are very structured and composed in their intricancy, and while lightning bolt posses all that, they still retain a strain of freedom and improvisation to them.

it's a shame more people don't know ruins that well. lack of energy my ass, listen to pallaschtom, that's one of the heaviest, craziest, best albums ever.

And let's not forget 'Stonehenge' and 'Burning Stone.'

also, in ruins favor, they can do a lot of things other than bash along full speed ahead in odd time rhythms, they can make entire albums with different vibes like free jazz (both albums with derek bailey), straight up prog (vrresto), even sort of jazz/funk (tzomborgha) and classical (symphonica) and pull it off everytime sounding like ruins.

Agreed. And on top of that, it' all done while singing complex vocal parts in a made-up language.

i see your vocal parts and raise it, now yoshida tatsuya plays all those songs by himself with a sequencer while singing and everything, and he always pulls it off flawlessly.

it seems on my recent posts i favor ruins/yoshida over the bolt/chippendale but i don't really, they are too different in my opinion. chippendale is a monster in lightning bolt, there's something about the synergy between him and gibson that's amazing, and there's also the free improv vibe they do, the little details of both their playings. but outside of lightning bolt, i don't like chippendale's drumming much; i mean, i like mindflayer and wizzardzz alright, but not as much as lightning bolt and i really love most of yoshida's side stuff (koenjihyakkei, musica transonic, seikasoku, his solo albums, his collaborations with keiji haino, knead, sun kich, sanhedolin, etc.)

i guess lightning bolt are more like a band thing and ruins is a tatsuya led band, mostly.

Everyneurotic: You should up a Ruins album for me in the bootleg/share/trade thread. It would be much appreciated.

i hope i won't get into trouble but i will. i'm uploading some stuff, once that's done, i'll upload it.

EDIT::well, here's a mix of various yoshida tatsuya bands/projects i did, it's two discs long, but worth it if you want to check a lot of yoshida's stuff. a little less than half the songs are ruins, by the way.

true, i didn't mean to come off like that, it's just that some people think ruins are mellower than the bolt.

ruins have more variety to their sound, which sometimes make them seem less aggressive than the bolt.

you have to download both parts and the merger file (all on the main page of the link), then run the merger to get one .zip file. then unzip.
