classic albums, asp edition # 43: robert fripp and the league of crafty guitarists...
![]() ROBERT FRIPP AND THE LEAGUE OF CRAFT GUITARISTS "LIVE" 1986 I will eventually get to listing a King Crimson album for one of these (definitely will be picking "Red") but for now, I wanted to mention this album. This is Robert Fripp and 18 or so other guitarists tuned to the "NEW STANDARD TUNING" playing acoustic guitar with some "Frippertronics" over top. Doesn't sound like your cup of tea? Well, at times, it resembles Gastr Del Sol doing a King Crimson cover or something. Hah. Pretty brilliant and highly reccomended. Here's a random video of the performance that this recording is of on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVtsUJtXxkU Here's a link to the whole thing: http://lix.in/e5792c |
It's almost as if Robert did a "Fripp's Guitar Idol" show and selected various participants for his bands and others went on to their own "fame". I know for sure his past bassist/stick/Warr guitarist Trey Gunn was from his guitar classes and so were the members of the California Guitar Trio who are excellent.
Great music, but when I see vids of these endeavours, I've never seen stiffer necks or proper posturing for guitar playing. I prefer Fripp cutting loose during his Dinosaur solo's when touring with King Crimson. He lets his hair down at that time, not with the LoCG's !! hahaha.... |
Yeah, to actually watch them is ridiculous. Robert Fripp almost exclusively wears tuxedos and shit for the last 20 years he's been playing. He looks silly. Haha.
..Oh well, (usually) great music though haha. |
For as searing of guitar work Fripp does with King Crimson, he is the most UNrock-n-roll appearing as I've ever seen. KC isn't RnR per se, but still part of that Rock School. He's such a dichotomy.
|
Haha. Exactly.
Robert Fripp needs to let his hair down and be himself. ![]() |
wow, as most know im a diehard fripp/crimson fan, and i have never heard of/heard this, will be checking out
|
It's pretty crazy stuff batreleaser. I think you'll like.
|
Wowza. Odd choice (was not expecting you to be a KC/Fripp fan, atsonic), but yeah, this one is quite good. Glad it made the series.
|
Heheh. Actually, yeah, I love Crimson. I even love LIZARD and THRAKATTACK, which most people don't really seem to care for for whatever reason. One of my favorite Crimson albums is POWER TO BELIEVE. They're just brilliant... you know, it can be a little much sometimes, of course, but there's always something entertaining about their work.
|
Robert Fripp is king!

"Fripperlips"
|
I really wish you'd do a classic albums post on a Kayo Dot or maudlin of the Well record... but ehh whatever you feel like doing heh!
|
hahaha.
I'll get to one of those two bands ... eventually. |
at number #435 hah
|
this one's pretty darn good; love good live stuff
... still would deem w/Eno No Pussyfooting or (especially) Evening Star as classic though before I ever turned this one loose for consideration... |
I just want to hang out in the room on the cover of No Pussyfooting.
|
Thank you resident Exorcise Instructor/Karma Curator...haha yes, Ab-So-Freakin'-Lute-Ly.
