Virtual Tour

Bryce Canyon is a small national park in southwestern Utah. Named after the Mormon Pioneer Ebenezer Bryce, Bryce Canyon became a national park in 1924.

Bryce is famous for its worldly unique geology, consisting of a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters carved from the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau in southern Utah. The erosional force of frost-wedging and the dissolving power of rainwater have shaped the colorful limestone rock of the Claron Formation into bizarre shapes including slot canyons, windows, fins, and spires called "hoodoos." Tinted with colors too numerous and subtle to name, these whimsically arranged rocks create a wondrous landscape of mazes, offering some of the most exciting and memorable walks and hikes imaginable.

Ponderosa pines, high elevation meadows, and fir-spruce forests border the rim of the plateau and abound with wildlife. This area boasts some of the world's best air quality, offering panoramic views of three states and approaching 200 miles of visibility. This, coupled with the lack of nearby large light sources, creates unparalleled opportunities for stargazing

that's odd. Since you are name checking national parks in Utah why didn't you choose Zion? :o

Now that was clever.

I'm not name checking. I have been to Zion and Bryce. Zion is cool, but Bryce Canyon is better then mushrooms. I first discovered the majesty and peculiarity of God Almighty in the grace and artful creation of the hoodoos at Bryce Canyon when I was younger.. if the geological theory of explanation is correct, I only see more majesty in God then less that thousands and millions of years of erosion combine to form something so obviously beaufitul. The process is the combination of math, science and art that the human eye can admire and perceive.

I have been to almost every state and national park in Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico, there is nothing like Bryce Canyon... maybe even in the world.

while i'm bored to tears by most of utah, the canyons are sweet. are you coming up to the northern parts by any chance?

I LOVE Utah ! I've been to the Kolab canyons (part of Zion) and the main part of Zion Park and it is otherworldly ! I didn't have a camera at the time, but my memories are starkingly vivid.

I used to live in Salt Lake and even the Wasatch directly next to the city are amazing. I found the mormon population and influence actually a positive. I was never proselytized by them and they are such busy/family people they don't allot much time to hedonistic pleasures. Thus I had all the room in the world and could go out to eat at 6 or 7pm and sit right down.

But yes, if you're an outdoor lover...hiker, skier, biker, whatever...Utah can't be beat.

Just buy your GOOD beer at the liquor store and put it on ice quickly (they only sell it hot. :( ) Dont' buy at the 7-11, it's only 3.2 schwag !!

Aside from the Kolob sections of Zion, the rest of the park seems too crowded and paved. Still fun to go to a few times a year but I prefer to stay away from the national parks.

yes, this is why I liked Bryce better then Zion. fuck it, I decided to dedicate the funding to go back to Bryce and hike around a couple of days next summer. I wanted to go visit my sister in Portland but I have been dreaming about those canyons for a week straight now, I have no choice!
