Brighten The Corners deluxe

Every couple of years, there is a Pavement double-disc reissue. Will there be one for Bright The Corners this year?
Malkmus: I think there is. I don't have any of the tapes, any of the ephemera. I barely have any posters. In fact, I can't even remember anything. So, uh, it's hard for me to know exactly what the plans are with that stuff. I'm kind of just along for the ride. I think Matador wanted to consolidate the catalogue, so they do it for that reason. They get new contracts with us that are beneficial for them, and those things come out. And they do a good job. They're lovingly compiled and they put everything in its context, everything in one place. And maybe it sounds pretty interesting at this point, 10, 12 years down the line from when the records came out. I don't really know what they really sound like compared to things now, exactly. Not as compressed or as loud. CDs weren't as loud back then.

Good news, I hope it's true.
Maybe they'll put "For sale : the Preston School of Industry", that'd be great.

atsonicpark 07.21.2008 03:01 PM

I own the first 3 reissues, doubt I'll pick that one up but I might. Definitely won't pick up the inevitable terror twilight one.

noisereductions 07.21.2008 03:09 PM

I'll get em all. Heckler, I thought "For Sale" was from the TERROR TWILIGHT sessions? No? Such a great song!

k-krack 07.21.2008 03:12 PM

Stoked!

schizophrenicroom 07.21.2008 03:31 PM

oh hell, i'm buying this.

truncated 07.21.2008 03:45 PM

Meh.

I find my naive and juvenile love of Pavement diminishing more and more as Malkmus's persona becomes more and more prickish. BTC and Terror Twilight were never quite up to par for me to begin with.

Savage Clone 07.21.2008 03:47 PM

But I hear this contains rare "on-key" vocal outtake versions!

truncated 07.21.2008 04:04 PM

Shut up. I admit to being flawed!

acousticrock87 07.21.2008 04:09 PM

If not enjoying Pavement anymore is a flaw, I don't want to be corrected.

HECKLER SPRAY 07.21.2008 04:12 PM

Yeah, Malkmus is a jerk, but I don't care, I still love Pavement. Maybe it's a naive and blind love, I don't care.

Concerning "For sale... ", i'm pretty sure they played it in 1997, so...

atsonicpark 07.21.2008 05:13 PM

I just think pavement got less exciting. Though technically better at the same time. "Wowee" succeeds in both being weird and talented... brighten and terror are both pretty boring, though melodically satisfying. Dont' care about Malkmus's solo career and don't know/care if he's a dick or not.

HECKLER SPRAY 07.21.2008 05:18 PM

In my opinion, a bad Pavement's album is better than the best Radiohead's album.

lechaoscestmoi 07.21.2008 05:21 PM

imo you're wrong

atsonicpark 07.21.2008 05:23 PM

I don't know what Pavement or Radiohead have in common, but yeah Radiohead aren't that great.

Except Kid A.

HECKLER SPRAY 07.21.2008 05:23 PM

Too bad !
Edit : concerning chaos post.

super_charger 07.21.2008 08:53 PM

I've always had a hard time liking Pavement seeing as Malkmus' voice reminds me of Everclear.

Oof! Knocked the wind out of me there. :p

atsonicpark 07.21.2008 10:14 PM

Everclear? Huh? The band? Um... okay. I, uh, don't see that AT ALL.

If you're saying that his voice reminds you of the drink Everclear, fuck yeah! Good shit!

ZEROpumpkins 07.21.2008 11:22 PM

I've been holding out for this one for the past year and a half. It better come out soon.
