Which bands have you opened for?

A lot of you folks on here are in bands, and are dreadfully old. Surely you must have some intriguing tales in your catalogue. Which bands have you opened for, and when? Tales of regrettable debauchery and public embarrassment are also welcome.

i opened a door for barney from napalm death once, but i'm sure thats not the kind of thing you're interested in

Did you puke on his shoes? Expose yourself?

Savage Clone 05.29.2006 10:32 AM

Some of these shows did amount to public embarrassment, but here's a list...

Acid Mothers Temple
(hanging out after the show I thought I would be Mr Cool and mix Kawabata some Absinthe; grabbed the wrong unlabelled bulk container from my friend's cupboard and mixed in salt instead of sugar!! Found out a week later. Mortification ensued.)

Kinski on 4 occasions; I love those people and I love their wonderful band.

Six Organs Of Admittance

High Rise

Spectrum

Overhang Party

Davis Redford Triad

Sonic Youth (we were awful and embarassed ourselves, truly)

Paul Metzger

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - twice

Fursaxa

Bevis Frond

Harvey Bainbridge of Hawkwind

Legendary Pink Dots

Asva

SubArachnoid Space

Timothy, Revelator

and a few festivals with some other great bands that are out of my league.
I have been very lucky, and had some good times. The highest-profile shows have been the more embarrassing ones, strangely.

johnnywinternoshow 05.29.2006 10:55 AM

if it makes the story better, sure. I also defecated down the back of his shirt and gave him a pat on the back

noumenal 05.29.2006 10:56 AM

I played WITH Richard Marx, bitches.

Savage Clone 05.29.2006 10:58 AM

Noumenal wins.

noumenal 05.29.2006 11:00 AM

Damn right I do.

HOLD ON TO THE NIGHTS

We have unsung celebrities on this board apparently. In some cases, not in a good way.

mike doughty(from soul coughing)-apparently mike wanted a dj set but the owner of the pilot light asked me(gtr) and my friend(sax) to do a noise set. the audience really liked it but mike didnt seems too pleased....

minus the bear-kind of a crappy band. the guitarist walked in on me smoking a bowl in the bathroom

swearing at motorists-that guy smokes alot of weed

truncated 05.30.2006 03:54 AM

Minus the Bear would have potential to be a great band if they weren't so indie.

SC, I would totally have stolen Keiji Haino's sunglasses.

nicfit 05.30.2006 04:19 AM

we opened for victory at sea...period.

darthblav 05.30.2006 12:49 PM

Savage Clone that is an impressive list! You musst have had a lot of great stories.

With my old band Dorian Gray we played a few shows with national indie bands like Calla, The Cells, Riddle of Steel, Unicorns, and Heavenly States. Before my time with the band they opened for Luna, Oceanblue, Porcupine Tree, Tonic, 12 Rods, Colfax Abbey, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Tom Spacey, Super Deluxe, and Elliot Smith.

With my other band that just broke up we played a few couples shows and ended up opening for Life andTimes and the Frogs.

Savage Clone 05.30.2006 01:22 PM

You played with my old band and stayed at my house!
Crazy!!
