Why in the hell did I buy that album?

Do you ever go through your music collection and happen upon an album whose purchase, in retrospect, is totally inexplicable? You literally utter an inward groan of disgust at your own bad taste?

A few of mine:

Venus Hum
Pedro the Lion
Luscious Jackson
French Kicks
Jets to Brazil
Alkaline Trio
Far
Semisonic (this deserves self-flagellation)

There are surely many more, but I suspect I'm mentally repressing them.

EyeballGrowth 05.28.2006 04:26 PM

Ahahaha semisonic. Well yeah I got a stack of about 8 or 9 ones that I got in the early 90's that I wonder why I ever bought. Probably cause I was 11

Veruca salt
Sponge - Rotting Pinata
Metallica - Load

h8kurdt 05.28.2006 04:26 PM

Korn in general

To be honest their isn't many I regret buying.

Inhuman 05.28.2006 04:27 PM

I barely have any :). I just got really into music recently and I went through the whole pop punk phase pretty fast!

TATU
Backstreet Boys
Brittany Spears

I never listened to it.

Also, some live Black Sabbath album with some shitty singer, as well as every Rolling Stones album I have ever bought. Add Abbey Road to that list too, my little siblings have played the shit out of that album and I hate it now.

qprogeny79 05.28.2006 04:29 PM

temple of the dog? audioslave? local h? live?

all collecting dust from my formative years of taste.

acousticrock87 05.28.2006 04:30 PM

I thought about starting a thread like this but forgot about it.

I have so many CDs I regret buying. I have a ton of hardcore/metal stuff that I can't stand anymore. I have a Good Charlotte CD that I still don't think is that bad. Music is music.

h8kurdt 05.28.2006 04:30 PM

Nothing wrong with audioslaves first album or temple of the dog.

Hell, I'd keep that album just for its cover and title.

I won't comment on the Rolling Stones. You're wounding me.

I have an EP by Inspiral Carpets that I know is damaging my cred just by being in my house.
A few of Zappa's more cheesy efforts
Oho- Vitamin Oho

More recently, that Virgin Insanity reissue LP.

atari 2600 05.28.2006 05:15 PM

some in my cassette collection were purchased back in high school through the columbia house club, so there's a bunch of marginal '80s music there.

themawt71 05.28.2006 05:37 PM

all of the cds i would be embarassed about have been sold and new and better cds have taken their place.

iron butterfly
metal church
bel biv devoe(i was 9)
mili vanilli(9)
dinosaur jr-without a sound

Toilet & Bowels 05.28.2006 06:01 PM

i bought some singles by some shit bands back at the height of britpop. i had a single by each of these bands: menswear, ocean colour scene, cast, kula shaker. i can't remember which ones they were though. blame impressionable youth and naivety towards journalistic hyperbowl.
it's kind of a weird question though, because i could probably tell you exactly why i bought every single record i own, even the ones i don't like.
being an avid music buyer is often about taking calculated risks in the search for the gold.

i can't think of anything i was particularly into that now i find awful though. aside from that one summer (1992) that i was into guns n roses.

hey alex 05.28.2006 06:14 PM

most of the cure cds i have (i like some of tyhem, but sometimes I iwsh i didn't have so many of htem)
kiss-destroyer
super furry animals-phantom power
elliot smith, basemnet on a hill
every deatch cab album (some are good, but i bough tmost of them during 2 weeks when i was on a kick)
bright eyes, too much bright eyes

HaydenAsche 05.28.2006 06:16 PM

Alkaline Trio
Blood Brothers
Haste the Day

That's about it. I don't think I'd heard any of the bands when I bought the cds.

EMMAh 05.28.2006 06:17 PM

I actually like Alkaline Trio

Ramones Greatest Hits Live is a CRAP cd.
