wire had them on the front cover and i'm throughly down with them cept they wear thin pretty quickly.

anyone ever heard any of carlas other bands - "Geraldine Fibbers, Scarnella, and Ethyl Meatplow" - are they worth checking out

I really like Evangelista. I like "Hello, Voyager" just fine, but the album "Evangelista" that Carla Bozulich released under her name a couple years back is the should-be classic we'll be talking about in coming decades. Haunting, chilling, neckairs-on-end power and beauty.

Yes, her other stuff is worth checking out, but like all her stuff, it's conditionally recommendable depending on your tastes and open-mindedness. I'm guessing you'd like at least some of each of those projects. I probably like certain Fibbers albums in their entirety, but never an Ethyl Meatplow record. That band was like too many ideas all competing for attention within the same song. It didn't always blend. But for the time--which was a lowpoint in the last few decades--E.M. always took admirable dares.

Carla's first thing was singing for a project called Zurich 1916 on their Creative Nihilism 2xLP from 1984. You can find more info and links to listening here...

Don't miss Evangelista live....it's brilliant.

i saw her play last month, it seemed like she was having a bit of an off night, or at least it wasn't nearly as good as the last time i saw her (that time was mind blowing, when she was doing red headed stranger), or the last time my friend saw her.
still, it was better than a poke in the eye.

Just got round to fully listening to her stuff and a lot of it is exquisite. You're right when you say it spreads thin, but those first few listens are powerful.

I fucking love carla and evangelista.
I never get tired of listening to it.

The last album is probably the best.

So, because I love it so much I decided to hear geraldine fibbers and wasn't impressed - maybe i'm doing it wrong.

Not really a fan of the records (even though they're good) but I saw Carla and her band live twice: first time they were opening for Wilco and Nels Cline played on a few songs with them, second time it was in a really small venue and she pulled out a great performance. Great band.
