Albums that best define their genre

if an alien was beamed down to earth and wanted you to explain to them this thing they call 'rock music', which one album from each of the following genres would you play to them ?

Classic Rock:

Punk:

Alternative/indie:

Noise:

Metal:

New Wave:

Not your favourite album from these genres, but the one you think best defines them.

GrungeMonkey 05.31.2008 07:16 AM

Classic Rock: Led Zep IV
Punk: The Ramones
Alternative/Indie: (cant do this one, too wide a genre, maybe Loveless)
Noise: Metal Machine Music
New Wave: Marquee Moon i guess...

Well, in my opinion I havn't (and no one can have on this board) heard enough albums to authoratively claim this, so the best we can do is make an educated guess...

Classic Rock: Led Zeppelin I

Alternative/Indie: Daydream Nation

Noise: Merzbow, 1930

New Wave: Echo & The Bunnymen, Ocean Rain

lechaoscestmoi 05.31.2008 07:30 AM

alternative/indie: daydream nation

Death & the Maiden 05.31.2008 07:31 AM

Classic Rock: Led Zeppelin IV

Punk: The Saints - (I'm) Stranded

Alternative/indie: Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

Noise: The Gordons - 1st Album

Metal: Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden

New Wave: Maybe Television's Marquee Moon? I don't know if that's really New Wave though.

I agree with This Is Not Here's statement about none of us being able to give the definitive answer, and this thread has reminded me of how little I know about music.
