Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time...
Quirky 80s indie music.
I was listening to The Diagram Brothers recently (honest!). At the time (early 80s) they sounded so funny and clever to me. But somehow "I Didn't Get Where I Am Today By Being A Right Git" doesn't do much for me any more. Same goes for The Higsons, Marc Riley & The Creepers (although I remember them being great live) and just about any other quirky 80s indie bands. Discuss these bands (unlikely), or other music that seemed like a good idea at the time... Or have a nice cup of tea. That's what I'm going to do. |
And talking of quirky 80s indie bands. Take a look at the latest issue of The Word magazine. Half Man Half Biscuit have done a mock up of album sleeves they'd like to release.
Look at the Pam Ayres record sleeve and I defy you to not wee yourself laughing. I can't find a picture of it on the internet and it can't really be described properly, but it's FUNNY. |
these bands seem regional or something, or maybe just Britihs. I don't know any of these bands.

It's pookie day. help yourselves to cake and tea.

I did have a strange desire to refamiliarise myself with Microdisney recently. This was quickly nullified however after downloading and listening to their album 'The Clock Comes Down the Stairs'.
It's strange to think that such an album was so celebrated in its time, not just by the music press but by me. It makes me quite reluctant to dip back into my favourite albums from that era. I mean, I'd much rather my fond memories of The Railway Children remain intact. |
Yeah Yeah Noh. They disappointed me at the time, and yet I still find myself tempted to try to rediscover them.
|
Used to play the Flying Lizards "Money" all the time...is that what you mean by quirky? Devo comes to mind but they're a 70's band...

The Cardiacs were great. But I haven't listened to them for ages

I can't remember the 80's.
I wish I could have helped. :( |

Devo put out albums in 70s, 80s, 90s and (to an extent) 00s. Devo rules. |

They remain fairly good, though I never really got excited by them personally. I think they slipped under the radar in quite a self-sustaining way. I'm pretty sure their now guitarist is a heavy SY fan, so let's all say nice things about them in case they read this. |
Why do I think of Camden Town every time I read their name? I don't know them well, just a couple of songs.
|
they seem popular with ex-goths. Or is it just me?
|
am i the only one who have never heard of any of the artists pookie/sarramkrop always talk about?
