Teenage Jesus & the Jerks reuiniting for 2 NYC shows
"To commemorate the publishing of NO WAVE: Post Punk, Underground, New York, 1976-1980 edited by Thurston Moore and Byron Coley and published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc., The Knitting Factory NYC is proud to present the one time only return of the most legendary of No Wave pioneers TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS."
June 13, 8pm & 11pm. $25 Should I stay or should I go? |
Why does this make me think, "Oh dear"?
|
I sort of feel similar. My sister has some weird crush on Lydia so she really wants to go but it seems like a nostalgic bowel movement to me.
|
And let's face it, it's been a loooong time since Lydia's done anything worth mentioning.
I met her once, and she is tiny!!!! |
Doesn't fit the shoes for her huge ego then huh?
|
id probably check it out for 25 bucks...
|
I would go to this, yeah. It probably is gonna suck, but who knows.

Because when most band reunite they suck. |
Its just gonna consist of Lydia dismissing the audience and everyone laughing at their own degradation.
|
so, she's going to pretend she's 18 again?
dear lawrd... |
Actually, I think this one could be good. Lydia hasn't really "progressed" beyond this role to begin with, and since she hasn't been doing the material to death until she was bored with it for all these years, it might be alright. The rest of the band were good musicians to begin with in their own way, so if they've gotten better it probably won't mess up this stripped down material.
I'm as cynical as anyone about reunions, but somehow I think if they only do a couple shows that they might well be good shows to see. If they launch a full tour or record a new album, or rerecord the old stuff, that would probably get tired fast. |
Cool, I'm going to try to play with her.
Actually, that might be gross. |
too bad it's not 3 weeks later or i would go just to see if it's horrible or not.
|
It'd be difficult for them to mess this up, honestly.
Too bad James Chance won't be there... |

I think that's likely the case. However, the audience cheering madly, and Lydia putting them down, to double the cheers, might get tedius. When they were first around they were so new and shocking that people probably just sat their staring, but now everyone there will know they are seeing history. Or a historical reenactment anyway. I'd still go if I was in NYC for sure. |
too bad ill be in england
reunions are lame anyway |

lydia aint lookin so great these days... her poetry has gone downhill too, and shes performed with mars volta, which would bring anyone down a few points...
and yes, too bad james chance wont be there, i think hes probably the most talented musician out of the no-wavers, he had a very unique and extreme way of playin that sax. |
the contortions have always been one of my favorite bands, theyre kinda perfect to me, combining the best elements of a lot of my favorite types of music; punk rock, free jazz, noise, funk, etc... thats a band that makes me wish i was born 15 years earlier so i could have seen them play.
|
jim sclavunos has had a fuckin dream of a music career though, eh? teenage jesus and the jerks, sonic youth when they were at their noisiest, and the bad seeds, and now, grinderman. the guy has played with so many legends that hes become sort of a legend in his own right. and to his credit, hes a hell of a fuckin drummer.
