Best Thurston album?
 

This has probably been a thread before, but anyway: I have now bought all of SY`s albums, and I want more. I think I will give Thurstons albums a chance. Should I start with Psychic Hearts?

No, these are really bad places to start with Thurston's material, yes, Psychic Hearts would be a good first record to buy. That or his latest Trees Outside The Acedemy, if you like those then you can explore the obscurer experimental releases listed above, but they're a very illogical place to start.

Yes, you should start with Psychic Hearts. I'm perhaps the biggest experimental music/noise geek on here, but I still love that album the most. It's as good as a straight up Sonic Youth album while a lot of his other solo material has "side project" written all over it. Incredible pop songs, followed by "Elegy For All the Dead Rock Stars" which is one of the best melodic, repetative Thurston guitar jams ever.

Among his experimental/noise releases, I'm partial to Flipped Out Bride.

I haven't gotten Trees Outside the Academy yet, because when I saw him live doing those songs, they just seemed blown away by the Psychic Hearts material at the end.

sorry, my suggestions are of course for just after the two main albums...they are by far not the most "difficult" to listen (compared to a lot of works with Tom Surgal, Keiji Haino, Paul Flaherty, etc.)
