jawbreaker appreciation thread
I've been rocking dear you and 24 hour revenge nonstops. awesome.
|
Yeah, I was so ready to get the 4F tattoo for a loooooong time. I recently got way back into them again. I forgot why. The recording of "Gemini" on the live album is hands down one of the best things they ever did, in my opinion. Bivouac definitely has my favorite songs of theirs, but I'm not sure if that or 24 Hour is my favorite album.
Blake is kind of sketch now though http://www.myspace.com/distantwizard I'll just forget about the fact that he's obsessed with Morrissey and being whatever and keep rocking "Donatello". |
Hahaha.

"you're not punk and i'm telling everyone, save your breath i never was one"
awesome band!!!! so intense. |
one of the all-time favorites. i wish the sixteen year old i live with could've known a time when "emo" and "hardcore" referred to bands like jawbreaker, unwound and rorschach.

My friend whos into the current emo/pop-punk scene recommended them to me a while back but I kind of ignored since I can't really stand a lot of the music he's into. Maybe I should check it out, though.
Any recommendations on where to start? |

the middle albums: bivouac and twenty-four hour revenge therapy are both timeless and unstoppable. i'd go with twenty-four hour for starters. |
Jawbreaker always sounded generic to me, like so many of those 'crusty' SF/bay area punk bands...just not very interesting music. Just did not like them at all. It is good to see SF happening again though.

emo? Try Rites of Spring. Pop Punk? Buzzcocks, early redd kross, the 1st Muffs album, early Dickies were fucking great! |
I agree that they're not all that innovative or completely captivating, but I really have come to love this band. I'm totally into 24 hour right now and trying to get more into the old stuff.
