Haven't listened to Tweez in 3ish years

I listen to Spiderland a lot, but never had a copy of Tweez. I used to listen to it and play songs off of it on my radio show a few years ago.

I completely forgot what it sounded like. . . man Rapeman/Shellac sound so much like that album.

PAULYBEE2656 11.12.2007 07:47 AM

nope. they dont! i dont think so anyway. twwez isnt a great album, its ok. its a poor attempt at a big black rip off band at best...... they hadnt mastered their genius at that time, they were trying to find it.
it does sound alibini-ish for obvious reasons...

gualbert 11.12.2007 07:54 AM

I just got Tweez , I think it's an ok record ( well , great sound and poor songs ) .
Is Spiderland much better?

GravitySlips 11.12.2007 07:59 AM

I think tweez is great, with some really cool tracks. spiderland is more refined and takes Slint's sound to a whole new level, and i would say it is much better..but i still dig tweez.

PAULYBEE2656 11.12.2007 09:15 AM

there are few albums ever made that better spiderland... its an essential purchase.

atsonicpark 11.12.2007 10:42 AM

tweez is awesome. i love it.

PAST WHERE THEY PAINT THE HOUSES!

Everyneurotic 11.12.2007 10:54 AM

thanks man, i needed you to start a thread about it, i wasn't able to sleep last night because of this.

The Usher 11.12.2007 11:17 AM

Yeah i agree, you can here Shellac so clearly in this album.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 11.12.2007 12:15 PM

Most rock albums recorded by Albini sort of have his sound though.

Rob Instigator 11.12.2007 12:31 PM

exactly. what you re hearing that reminds f shellac is albini's recording style.

tweez is 50/50. There are some awkward and dull songs on it as well as some good songs on it. I do not consider it esential listening at all.

Spiderland and Slint's 10" instrumental EP however, are fucking amazing.

YES!

Tweez was cool too, but I prefer spiderland.

The Usher 11.12.2007 02:42 PM

I disagree, I think with Slint there's more than just the 'albini sound'...

of course. I said that what reminds people of shellac in slint records is the recording techniques. shellac sound NOTHING like slint

eatmychild 11.12.2007 03:22 PM

I really enjoy listening to Tweez on repeat in summer. There are loads of things about it which I like, from the various sound samples to be heard throughout the album, the distinctive flavours of each song, the guitar tone is nice (have never listened to anything by shellac so maybe not desensitized to it, or over-sensitized to it). The riffs are good (often quirky), lyrics are interesting....
But definitely an album for sunny holidays, not a cold dark dead winter.

Yeah.

I find it funny how he says he just tries to give a true representation of what the band sounds like, but all the bands he records has the same guitar, bass, and drum sound as his stuff.

Well, this is not entirely true, but I get what you mean and I even agree to an extent :D.
Spiderland is much better than tweez , and the EP has one of my fav "distort breaks" ever, after the little "shout", you know. This does not mean that Tweez is lame, just that it's not THAT good.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 11.12.2007 05:25 PM

Well, Spiderland is just so mindblowing.

that's just plain false.

go listen to goat then mono's walking cloud then jawbreaker's 24 hour revenge therapy and then to neurosis' given to the rising and see if you can hear the same sounds.
