The other guy is Keith Levine also from PIL. I watched this on the Tomorrow Show video. It's kind of too bad that Lydon was so big on saying nothing. Snyder comes off as clueless to the whole punk/new wave experience and not too into finding out anything, but that's not consistent with his other interviews. He did a great interview of Iggy Pop who actually answered questions and did two awesome performances. He also had Kim Fowley, Joan Jett (when she was still in the Runaways), Patti Smith (who he seemed absolutely in awe of) and lots of other guests who the rest of t.v. wouldn't touch. He was definitely an outsider, but he asked the questions seeming like an outsider who was really curious. He just didn't know what to do with Lydon refusing to say anything.

Levine seems cool in the interview but Lydon shows the kind of arrogance that's ultimately quite boring. Whether he knows it or not, he's playing the self-obsessed rock star to the hilt.

It was pretty great to finally get a good version of this on the Tom Snyder DVD set after having an old cassette audio for years. Lydon really sets Snyder off, and its not really clear to me why, unless Snyder had a thinner skin than one would think. Its worth watching just for the cigarettes. I think its wrong to title this Snder with John Lydon, it was Snyder with Public Image. If I was Levine I'd be pissed off, but I imagine he's had plenty of time to sop getting pissed off where Lydon is involved.

I wish they'd shown the first Plasmatics appearance, not the 2nd.

Considering that Synder had a show every weeknight for most of the 70's and these half dozen or so interviews & appearances are all he has to show as a record of punk/new wave speaks pretty loudly to the lameness of corporate entertainment. Maybe there's more in the vault. I'm more interested in Merv Griffins DVDs actually...

I don't know, y'all seem to be down on Johnny from that appearance. It was classic Johnny. They're a "corporation", we get it. They were just having fun with it. There's really not much to it, but it's still cool. He's always been about testing the boundries.
