bbc radio 1 40 year covers cd

Radio 1 have pulled together a thick brigade of popular artists for a retrospective covers compilation.
Famous faces from today's pop/rock tangent were assigned a year each from the last 40 and then asked to pick a song that fell in those 12 months.
As you can see below, The Fratellis were assigned 1968 - and have chosen to have a bash at Jimmy Hendrix' 'All Along The Watchtower'.

Apart from No DIggity being covered by klaxons which could well be highly amusing, this looks like one of the worst covers albums ever......

I must be getting old - I recognise more of the bands who did the originals than I do the bands doing the covers.

Teenage Dirtbag by Girls Aloud sounds like my idea of fun.

The Twang doing drinking in LA... clearly aware of how they will be seen in 10 years time.

Wow, I can't say that there's one single track on that comp that I want to hear.

I quite like the idea of Lily Allen doing the Pretenders. I'm slightly worried about Girls Aloud doing covers. Sometimes they are good, sometimes they are bad. Still, all the best to the ladies.

I have to say I also don't recognise half the band names, so it's not you being old, it's young people getting younger.

songs with potential (in my opinion):

1975: Love Is The Drug (Roxy Music) covered by Kylie - could be amazingly catchy if done right
1977: Sound & Vision (David Bowie) covered by Franz Ferdinand - could be cool
1978: Teenage Kicks (The Undertones) covered by The Raconteurs - i honestly can't picture this
1996: No Diggity (Blackstreet) covered by Klaxons - interesting
2002: Like I Love You (Justin Timberlake) covered by Maximo Park - i would like to hear what maximo park can do with this

this was the only one i thought might be interesting because i loved the original when i was younger, unlike all the other songs chosen - I mean DRINKIN IN LA???? im sure there were better songs that year

edit: its no surprise that franz ferdinand are doing bowie - theyre nothing more than a poor imitation with a raised eyebrow. those smart arses need to die
