punk is like christianity

It was started on cool principles by cool people, but most of its followers are dipshits.

Cardinal Rob 08.09.2007 02:16 PM

A bunch of people. I'd say Iggy Pop would be Jesus, which would make David Bowie like John the Baptist. MC5 and the Kinks would be Joseph and Mary. T. Rex, The New York Dolls, and the Velvet Underground would be the 3 wisemen.

CBGBs would be like the 12 apostles, and british punk would be like Paul's congregation.

The Casualties and bands like that would be Pat Robertson.

Sex Pistols = pontius pilate
ramones are one of the apostles (CBGBs)
kurt cobain would be like john calvin or martin luther or one of those guys. I'm gonna say John Calvin, beacuse I don't think Kurt Cobain would be able to make 95 accusations against the punk rock church. I'd say some early hardcore guy would be Martin Luther.

sellouteater 08.09.2007 03:56 PM

awesome much better now

Cardinal Rob 08.09.2007 04:07 PM

I'm waiting for atsonicpark to say that Scissor Shock is Mother Theresa.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 08.09.2007 04:13 PM

I'm to punk rock what Nick Cave is to Christianity.

I would think Ian MacKaye was more like John Calvin.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 08.09.2007 06:39 PM

I don't see Ian Mackaye as being someone who would believe in John Calvin. He could be the Martin Luther, being sort of the figurehead of hardcore punk. Hardcore punk = lutheranism, grunge = calvinism (grungers are predestined to smelliness and bad drug habits), punk = catholicism

SynthethicalY 08.09.2007 06:44 PM

Blink 182, Sum 41, and other pop-punks are the Rapture.

pbradley 08.09.2007 06:47 PM

Yeah, I see the whole apathetic defeatism being similar to Calvinist predestination.

Dead-Air 08.09.2007 08:52 PM

I'm not buying any of this really, but it's still entertaining. Who would be Mohamed then, Chuck D or Grandmaster Flash?
