There's this cool short series that starts tonight. I know alot of you aren't from here, but I know a few on here like the Saints and there's one on the I'm Stranded album, which you can purchase on dvd too. I think it's cool series anyway. Add Australian albums you like if this series holds no relevance to you. |
Darth Vegas - It Came From Beyond
Vicious Hairy Mary - Orchestral Phantasma |
Oh Lord, where do I begin?
Birthday Party - Prayers on Fire Birthday Party - Junkyard The Triffids - Calenture The Triffids - Treeless Plain The Triffids - Raining Pleasure The Triffids - Born Sandy Devotional Scientists - Blood Red River Scientists - This heart doesn't run on blood, this heart doesn't run on love Silver Ray - New Love Nick Cave - From Her To Eternity Nick Cave - The Firstborn Is Dead Nick Cave - The Boatmans Call That's my distinctly Anglo view of the whole thing. |
I'll just try and name my favourites 1 from each band:
The Dirty Three - Sad and Dangerous The Scientists - Blood Red River The Saints - I'm Stranded Boys Next Door - Door Door The Birthday Party - Prayers On Fire Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - The First Born Is Dead Venom P Stinger - Tearbucketer Lubricated Goat - Psychedelicatessen |
can I try, too?
THE CHUCH - PRIEST = AURA |

Did you check out the link I provided? There's a Triffids doco in that series. You can purchase it. |
The Saints : all Bailey-Kuepper era, especially Eternally Yours
Nothing by Kuepper solo (or with his later bands), for I don't know where to start from, plus it's said his voice is so so-so that it ruins the music a bit. Any idea about that? The Boys Next Door : Door, Door The Birthday Party : self titled Nick Cave : Tender Prey, Kicking against the Pricks, Let Love In You Am I : Hourly, Daily |
I own Butterfly Net by Ed Kuepper. I think it's a fantastic record.
It's funny how The Saints are always called a Punk band, when they became so much more than that. |
Thanks for the tip !
Right, I can't think of many punk music using horn sections the way they did, and given those wonderful things to play (Know Your Product). |
three albums ea. from three (thus far) unnamed bands
AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap AC/DC - Highway To Hell AC/DC - Back In Black INXS - The Swing INXS - Listen Like Thieves INXS - Kick The Church - Heyday The Church - Starfish The Church - Priest=Aura (oops, max has this one listed) |
The Go-Betweens, Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express ![]() Don't know what it is about this record, but it actually sounds 'Australian'. Whatever that might mean. |
Anything Radio Bridman.
The Blurred Crusade by The Church Most things by Tully |

Yeah, the Go-Betweens are fantastic. I agree they have a real Australian sound. |

Back In Black has some great songs on it but Bon era is the era. As for the series, they played the first one last night which was Silverchairs Diorama. Interesting doco even if you're not a fan of the band. |
Birthday Party rule all, but The Scientists or Radio Birdman are strong contenders. If rock is what we are talking about, these are the bands for me.

EDIT - I've just found it on ebay for AUS$29 (£12) including shipping, which is much more reasonable. I've bookmarked that page, and I'll try to remember to come back after 11th August to ask you guys whether it's worth buying. In the meantime, what was the Silverchair one like, as a music documentary generally, rather than as a programme about Silverchair. Did it include some kind of a reasonable career overview or history, or did it concentrate totally on the one album? |
australians suck
|
Oh, do they? I hadn't realised. Why is that?
