Why Won't People Let Musicians Grow?
I mean it, why do people want the band to do the same in the same style, over and over. Don't they get tired of it?
|
This is a big reason why I'm a Yo La Tengo fan.
|
that's why i love sy.
|
I'm all for bands I like doing whatever they want whether I enjoy it or not. If I dig what they did previously but can't stomach what they choose to do next, then i just don't listen to them. Although I do find it a shame and it really depands on what direction they take as to my response. Some bands do dreadful things that make listening to their earlier releases a task and in some cases... impossible.

i know what you mean. I was thinking about this just yesterday , about how people feel betrayed when a favorie band "dares" to make a record that is in any way different from the album/s that they love.
|
I'm all for a band/musician growing and experimenting, the problem is it can lead to massive sucking.
|
id rather a band take a few risks than play it safe. Nothing is more boring being able to exactly predict what a band is going to do next, and it seems as if more and more bands are going down the safe route these days which results in heaps of really average albums that are neither classic masterpieces or complete stinkers.

I know a hell of a lot of Neubauten fans who have stuck with them through all their many changes.
Extreme variation is definitely what keeps me coming back to Nurse With Wound. I never have any idea what to expect there, but I always know my chances are good. |
I think that among us, we do let the bands/musicians we listen to grow.
... So cut the fucking whining. |
if a band hadn't grown, "trout mask replica" wouldn't have happened.
or "spiderland". or.. etc |
