No Logo

Have you read it? I'm starting it tonight. I already read a book on the opposing view of it (The Rebel Sell), so I'd like to see how the views contrast.

afterthefact 05.06.2007 09:36 PM

What is it about? I'm not up on "literature."

k-krack 05.06.2007 09:45 PM

I'd like to read it. I have a few books like it I want to read, as well. The Corporation seems interesting.
I've just finished the Communist Manifesto, which I'm sure ties in in many ways...

Toilet & Bowels 05.07.2007 05:32 AM

no logo isn't really a communist book, it points out certain short falls and bugbears in the capitalist system. the communist manifesto is an analysis of how captialism works, how it will end and what will replace it.

_slavo_ 05.07.2007 06:34 AM

I read it, but found it quite boring after all.

demonrail666 05.07.2007 07:51 AM

I read No Logo but found nothing that a regular read of a newspaper and some common sense wouldn't have told me anyway.

Rebel Sell is much better but, again, anyone wandering into an Applestore or a Virgin Megastore will already know the score. And if anything, it's even more smug than No Logo. Not an easy feat to achieve.

the communist manifesto is just a manifesto-- a pamphlet, propaganda, a paternalistic glorification of the middle ages during a time when industrialism was brutal. its not really an analysis. for that, read das kapital-- & good luck staying awake

I've seen people reading "No Logo" in Starbucks. Irony, anyone?

whorefrost 05.07.2007 08:02 AM

I read most of No Logo. Quite a good read.. unfortunately I suck at finishing books.

The real issue here is what YOU were doing in Starbucks? You iron-hearted child of Adam Smith, you!

whorefrost 05.07.2007 08:05 AM

maybe he saw them through the window

afterthefact 05.07.2007 08:05 AM

People at Starbucks THINK they are on the other side, and they never realize they are just supporting the latest rising corporate conglomeration racing with the others to see who can gain greatest control over our minds first :)

sarramkrop 05.07.2007 08:08 AM

The sentiments behind it are good, but the only problem is that it makes good points while confusing others.

MellySingsDoom 05.07.2007 08:08 AM

demonrail666 - Me, I was demanding that an underpaid Polish employee serve me my latte double quick, whilst I looked out the window to sneer at some peasants and throw peanuts at some anti-capitalists. I truly am the bitch of Adam Smith and Morton Friedman.

demonrail666 05.07.2007 09:45 AM

Has anyone read the book she wrote after No Logo? I forget what it's called. Haven't read it myself, just wondering.
