Ikue Mori gets the MacArthur Foundation's "genius grant"
![]() ![]() Before you point it out, I thought about posting this in the Non-Sonic Sounds section of the board, but then I said fuck it, she was an integral part of SYR5, which puts her less than one degree of separation from Sonic Youth, so Sonic Gossip it is. https://www.whec.com/national-world/...grant-fellows/ https://news.google.com/search?q=iku...S&ceid=US%3Aen https://news.google.com/stories/CAAqNggKIjBDQklTSGpvSmMzUnZjbmt0TXpZd1NoRUtEd2owaG 9QLUJSRXpGNmUzaTR0Q2NTZ0FQAQ?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen Bet that wasn't exactly on her mind when she started drumming for DNA! Other fellows this year include cellist Tomeka Reid, and 23 people who for some reason think this planet and its inhabitants are worth saving. |
jeezus the mcarthur foundation a bit of a delayed response... took them this long?
|
They gave it to Mary Halvorson when she was 39, and to Ikue 41 years after the MacArthur Fellows Program was founded. I kinda dig the symmetry...
|
yes but it's given to encourage future work not to reward past glories
so, may she live past 100 |
