Possible war in Ukraine / Russian aggression
Let's discuss. Wonder what you guys' points are on this.
|
on a quick break /i can't do a long post right now, but to me this smells like the sudetenland all over again.
eta: and now china started talking about taiwan. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-p...is-2022-02-23/ yikes |
Thanks man. Noone seems to be giving a fuck too much, so it seems.
But I am. My dad lives around 90kilometres from Ukrainian border so i guess it's a bit of our war too. Russia are scum. |

i have not studied your maps much, but your dad might be receiving unexpected houseguests in the future. i've seen photos of refugees fleeing west to lviv, but if this expands, who knows how far they'll be pushed. -- eta please ignore my previous question about nato membership (now deleted), i was looking at an outdated document :o |
oh yes. although majority of refugees flee to Poland and Romania, we also get our share of people.
anyways, people have been outstanding - reaching out to help, offering refugees their spare rooms to crash for a couple of days. I myself plan to go to store to shop for some essentials (canned food, baby food, hygiene products) and to add it to a humanitary shipment for refugees My wife starts bugging me so that we take the whole family to Switzerland (I'm still on covid-homeoffice), but I don't want to. I feel that my place is here. |

damn, you're a true soldier. but good to know that you have options to send family abroad if things get hairier. the fucker put his nukes on alert! unfuckingbelievable... well not really, i believe he's a mad bastard. |
if the nukes starts flying around, I believe it completely doesn't make a difference if I'm in Bratislava or Zürich (800km apart from each other)
well, but let's be realistic. If he attacks a NATO country, he's pretty much done, and so is the whole Russia. |
does the madman have any underlings capable of deposing him?
|
Putin killed everyone who would oppose him already.
|
sounds like a good chance for a surprise face turn, to use a prowrestling phrase, for someone who he thought he could trust.

Revelations should be a book now has adjoined to Riuth should be the first book of the New Testament, not four confused and often before they take h, as their saviour, findings and their wounds? Interesting. I accept this edit although I put "Ruth" and "him". |

Seldom would one be quiet if the other three were saying yes to their establishment? |

but it looks like the beast is wanting to take over all of ukraine. and what happens from there, i think nobody has any idea. the refugee situation looks dire. i read that 4 million are expected eventually, and i've seen in the news that some people (a minority, but still) have been crossing into slovakia, 90k as of yesterday. eg see: https://data2.unhcr.org/en/situations/ukraine but i'm far away, so that's all in the abstract... how do things look like from where you are? |

well, apart from this being top story in the news, life in here (Bratislava) is just normal. The people of Ukraine are definitely coming in, I heard most of them are heading west and just crossing our country to go to Czech Republic, Germany and further. I know about many of the people in my surroundings though (friends, etc.) who have a spare flat/room and are temporarily sheltering people from Ukraine in their premises. |

Meanwhile, there are still high-ranking politicians in Germany and Austria unwilling or very slow to distance themselves from Pootey-Poot. Far right higher-ups have been besties with him for a long time. FPÖ (one of the most nationalistic and racist parties here in Austria) infamously invited him to her wedding. But also pretty central figures in more moderate parties as well. The German Social Democratic Party is currently in damage control mode because former chancellor Gerhard Schröder had been thick with him up until very recently. Former Austrian chancellors Christian Kern (Social Democratic) and Wolfgang Schüssel (Austrian People's Party - i.e. Conservative Party) had key positions in Russian state-owned businesses. The former at least had the good sense to immediately step down and distance himself after the war broke out - the latter only after over a week of intense pressure. Supposedly "leftwing" German politician Sahra Wagenknecht recently apologized for having miscalculated the situation (She had claimed quite publicly that she is certain Putin doesn't want a war and had been pretty smitten with him for years. She's also recently been under intense scrutiny for spreading Covid misinformation and for giving Anti-Vaxxers an air of "legitimacy"). One of her top party members, Gregor Gysi recently said he's glad his party isn't in the parliament and that it would be "disastrous" if they were. The far right German AFD party is also in a massive pickle - with some functionaries holding on to their Putin Kool Aid, while others are worrying about the public image - after all, they only want to discriminate against refugees that aren't Caucasian. A lot of that is in the media(s) in German-speaking countries right now. I for one am glad all this Putin canoodling top politicians have displayed over the years has finally come to bite them in the ass, even if only by being spotlighted. Anyway, the guy's an autocratic pathetic madman pandering to homophobes, oligarchs, nationalistic rightwing nuts, religious zealots and the likes. A man staging sports events, deep-sea treasure hunts and countless other things to look more appealing to the masses. A man so deeply afraid of any iota of opposition that he makes protests illegal. A tyrant carefully capitalizing on the tired "Strong man" trope - an image he crafted over the years - one that rightwing nuts salivated over. And the world played into his narrative, in many different ways. I hope that now at least some of those folks get to see him for the pathetic maniac he actually is. |
