Jaz(z)kam(m)er/Lasse Marhaug appreciation thread

one of my very favorite albums of '06 was the extraordinaire metal music machine by jazkamer, i also mentioned on the heaviest bands thread a couple of weeks ago because it's one of the only albums i have ever had that makes me blink from the sheer ferocity of the playing, it's really an amazing piece of music and, unlinke so many critics, i do think it has a direct link with lou reeds metal machine music (i have to really sit down and focus to get my ideas straight and write about the album, i'll link whatever i write on my zine/blog when it's done)

in the meantime, i thought i'd like to dedicate the thread to the norwegian noisers who spawned the album, jazkamer, the original and noisier jazzkammer and, above all, one of the best persons to get associated with the scene, lasse marhaug, a man aaron dilloway calls "his favorite collaborator", and all his projects.

love lasse baby

just ordered the new lasse marhaug disc "the great silence" from troniks. ive heard it is his best, looking forward to it. dilloway/marhaug collab coming soon, i dont know details but should be cool... jazkamer toured here a few months ago with carlos giffoni, i missed them here but i heard it was really awesome. bloody hands from sheer playing intensity. been meaning to get the "bring me the head of lasse marhaug" lp aswell.

Jazzkammer are a fucking bomb. This CD together with Merzbow "Live at the Molde Jazz Festival" is one of my favourite noise/avant CDs ever.

Has any of you seen this norwegian movie "Nor Noise" about noise music? It features interviews with Tore H. Bøe (Origami Republika), David Cotner (USA), Masami Akita (Merzbow), Lasse Marhaug (bla. Jazzkammer), Tashimaru Nakamura (Japan), Arm (Aleksander Rishaug, Arne Borgan, Arne Borgan, Are Mokkelbost), Asbjørn Flø (Oslo), Maja S.K. Ratkje (Spunk og Fe-mail), Kjell Runar Jenssen (DEL), Francisco Lopéz (Spain), Helge Sten (Deathprod) and Otomo Yoshihide (Japan)

Very very good, I highly recommend it!

I want to get Metal Music Machine. I heard the live set from Install last year and it was fantastic.

whorefrost 04.13.2007 06:33 AM

I saw them at Instal... pretty fucking intense... can't say I was totally into it... the volume just obliterated everything... then there was some clumsy, contrived instrument destruction at the end which made us chortle...

For those of you who don't know about this link containing pure goodness.

pokkeherrie 04.13.2007 07:27 AM

i saw them a couple of weeks ago and thought that they were pretty good, although i would've have preferred seeing them in their metal machine lineup.

Toilet & Bowels 04.13.2007 07:43 AM

i saw testicle hazard (lasse marhaug & tommy keranan) play, it was pretty good.

this is another lasse related gem:

_slavo_: where can you find that nor noise movie? sounds very awesome.

lasse, along with many people from the noise thing around the world, don't get talked much but are well known and well regarded by listeners; it's funny that most people are always at hand to discuss whatever new wolf eyes release is coming or the prurient's contributions yet you don't hear much about people from other parts of the world that's not the u.s. or japan. and when you see them mentioned it's "there's noise in x side of the world" like it's some weird thing...

...anyhow, those music for... albums lasse has done with maja ratkje are amazing too.
