Festival Season!

OKokok. It's nearly 'festival season' whatever that means. Which ones are you going to attend?

I was a bit dissapointed that the ATP lineup was pretty mediocre and that none of the smaller Scottish fests were quite ace enough to justify heading northwards but I did find these two gems which I may well attend:

Venn Festival (http://www.vennfestival.com/), Bristol, including:

Faust!
KTL
Spring Heel Jack
Vladislav Delay
The One Ensemble
Maher Shalal Hash Baz
J Spaceman
Justice Yeldham
Yellow Swans
Arrington De Dionsyo
Jack Rose
Aufgehoben
Ignatz
+ Many More.

Also, Supersonic (http://www.capsule.org.uk/Supersonic/), Birmingham, including:

What's eveyone else going to be attending?

Well Iain theres always 'The BIG Weekend' :D LOL

Actually last year was worth it because of Cerys Matthews, which I kinda dig

I think it's £35 for the two days which isn't bad. I think it's only in the evening on Friday and then all day Saturday.

I haven't decided for certain about Supersonic, I only started thinking about it the other day, but I will go if I can.

And don't forget Fflam!

http://fflamfestival.co.uk/

Washing Machine 04.08.2007 08:19 AM

yeah but Fflam's lineup kinda sucks. I don't mind the odd Manics song but thats about it. Keane are one of the few bands that can make me angery, simply on the basis of their utter, utter dullness

Iain 04.08.2007 08:23 AM

I know. Sorry, I was being a cynical, sarcastic cunt. Fflam looks awful, awful, awful.

Washing Machine 04.08.2007 08:28 AM

I thought so! it will be a very sad day in Wales...well at least its in swansea

Meanwhile we got Wolf Eyes!

I can't wait to see how many people turn up, I'm dragging all my friends along anyway

Iain 04.08.2007 09:12 AM

Wolf Eyes should be quite well attended I think.

I'll try and go to Supersonic. I was thinking about going to The Green Man festival to see Dead Meadow and just get really wasted for a weekend but I don't really have a clue about any of the other bands playing

Heres the list : http://www.thegreenmanfestival.co.uk/

Amongst the artists so far confirmed are: Robert Plant & The Strange Sensation, Joanna Newsom, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Bill Callahan, Vashti Bunyan, Stephen Duffy & The Lilac Time, Dead Meadow, Gruff Rhys, Vetiver, The Earlies, Richmond Fontaine, Euros Childs, Tunng, Starless and Bible Black, Lisa Knapp, Men-An-Tol, Arborea, Alela Diane, Monkey Swallows The Universe, The Yellow Moon Band, Steve Adey, Gilbert, Gareth Pearson, John Power with loads more to be added

Iain 04.08.2007 05:03 PM

Green Man line-up is pretty shit so far to be honest. Dead Meadow will probably play some shows around the time of the festival I would have thought.

pokkeherrie 04.08.2007 05:22 PM

No good festivals coming up for me, but this "festival season" does mean lots of gigs coming up from bands that are playing festivals elsewhere... which might actually be a better thing than festivals altogether.
ATP line-up does look mediocre indeed, but unfortunately it often is... however during the few times that it gets really good (like last December) it's easily the greatest festival you'll ever go to.

From the current "season", Sonic Protest festival looks interesting for those in Paris.

Apparently there's a European edition of the Table of the Elements festival coming up sometime during autumn. Has anyone heard about that?

Iain 04.08.2007 05:32 PM

Sonic Protest does look pretty good, as it usually does. Probably not quite ace enough to warrant foreign travel perhaps. It does overlap with my birthday though if anyone wants to buy me a ticket to it...and a plane ticket.

whorefrost 04.08.2007 06:13 PM

Reckon I'll head to Le Weekend. Zu and the Thing are playing. also, Zeena Parkins and Ikue Mori. Might be kewl
