Aretha Franklin 1942 - 2018
|
The word “legend” is often overused......but not with Aretha!
Died on the same day as Elvis. I heard lots of discussion about Mrs. Franklin on the radio today, but sadly they weren’t playing her music.....at least not like they did when Prince died. |
RIP
She was one of the first musicians I was ever exposed to. While my dad was trying to pass on his Beatlemania to a young me, my mom would try to balance that with Aretha. Absolutely a legend. Absolutely a monumental talent. Absolutely a game-changing voice. She will be missed. |
Never heard her music. Playing "Who's Zoomin' Who" right now. Don't get the fuss but to each one's own.

The news reports from Detroit have been genuinely moving, the love and affection i've seen is different from what happens when most 'celebrities' pass away. They were interviewing some people outside her church and a lady just took the microphone off the reporter and began interviewing everyone herself, asking how they'd met her, what she meant to them. It was great.

The greatest women singers of USA had the worst fucking lives.
Both Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald were raised in whorehouses, and sexually abused repeatedly. Aretha Franklin was raped repeatedly, and had her first child at age 12, then another at age 14. Her father left the family when she was around that age because he had impregnated a 12 year old girl himself. Church music saved her life. She brought that, mixed it up with Rhythm and blues and swing and helped craft SOUL MUSIC. Pay respect BITCHES |
Tina suffered just as much.
