Illicit ringing of the bells, Ydra (Hydra) Island, Greece. Really couldn't help myself. Black-robed priest NOT happy. Once we entered that courtyard and I saw the pull-strings laying there I went into a sort of trance-I've always dreamed to ring those sort of bells and before I knew it I was! I just did it before I could talk myself out of doing it. When priest came out yelling I was in slight disbelief myself that I had done it! In the end the priest was okay, we cooled him out. It's Greek Orthodox Easter this week and there are bells ringing on the island from 100 different churches-pretty amazing. I'm trying t convince our hosts to arrange for me to do a walking bell-ringing performance here next year, walking the crazy winding steep stair-streets from bell tower to bell tower-anyway admittedly a long-shot dream at the moment. I once went "Pussy Riot Like Lee" at the Menil Collection in Houston. They had a massive exhibit of Alexander Calder mobile sculptures, and I stood there blowing ever so slightly on them to make them move, BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO MOVE, and I got chewed out by a guard and by a manager. fucking art assholes. ruining it for everyone.
