Thurston Moore: "There is no underground anymore." quote from David Keenan article
|
Also, if you hadn't heard, Volcanic Tongue is closing down! :-(
I just picked up a copy of Ranaldo, Moore, Montera Les Anges Du Péché , apparently there will be discounted stuff in the coming weeks. At the time of writing, for example, the Bark Haze CD is £3.99. |
Let's get rid of Thurston Moore and David Keenan and start anew. That would be an excellent move for something new to happen.
|
Haha

The thing about that article was that it seemed like David Keenan was missing the point of why the underground existed in the first place, i.e. as a distribution network for bands who couldn't get there music distributed through previously existing channels. The internet has made all that irrelevant.
|
Yep and the internet kinda undermines the whole little operation he had going on there so he's probably understandably bitter
|
bullshit! somewhere there is underground music...

That's what happens when you think you can spread your tentacles all over the underground. You get jaded, bored and bitter because some things may not be under your radar. Thurston Moore on the hand should stick to buying self-published crap poetry in Stoke Newington book shops and make records that appeal to Savages fans. |
Interesting take on contemporary aesthetics.

I guess with Volcanic Tongue being based around the owners' personal tastes when music moves into areas that yr not into (as I;m guessing it must have because VT was stocking less and less new stuff, either that or they weren't paying their suppliers or something) then it limits what you can do.
