World Music

Use this area here to share links, mp3s, or other related info on music that is not in your native tongue, or from your part of the world.

I know there are quite a few of you. And you know who you are!

I'll start if off by sharing this track by a Geogrian woman (at least her name would suggest so, thought I don't think she is singing in Georgian). Western women just can't sing like this...

Well, of course not. Yuppies don't listen to world music anyway! They listen to Barry Manilow.

Thanks Sn@ke!

The first one reminds me of Partopi Tao Group from Sumatra. Worlds apart. Good stuff.

If you've got it, share it. I imagine it sounds much different.

porkmarras 09.10.2006 01:54 PM

Not bad but i prefered her singing rather than the music.I'll listen again because sometimes you just need to do that.

Everyneurotic 09.10.2006 02:30 PM

my mom has vinyl galore of south american folk and protest music, some great stuff, even though my t'table is not up to playing, let alone rip, music at the moment.

id seriously recommend to anyone interested in the great and different singing of women to get this.
Hot Women: Women Singers From The Torrid Regions Of The World
http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayP...;-1&sku=136484

compiled by robert crumb from his massive collection or wierd and wonderful collection of 78's. features women singers from all over the world. lots of different voices and a very interesting album.
also, i think most of the music was recorded between the turn of the century and the 1930's.

Can we infiltrate a little exotica into this thread? It could be a lot of fun if the quality remains high.
