Also at the Dublin gig (see Pauliebee). Put me down for fucking stunning. And the singer is unspeakably hot. Best not speak about it, then.

atsonicpark 07.28.2009 07:56 PM

I'd nail the 2 foot tall bassist.

batreleaser 07.29.2009 05:46 PM

always good live. in all honesty ive been getting over thier tunes lately, i just dont ever have any jones to listen to hyperactive spazzy prog punk stuff like them. which is wierd cuz i still dig the early records by dazzling killmen, u.s. maple, and the first yowie record. melt banana just doesn't do it for me anymore, as talented as they are they seem more of one of those "gateway" bands to me. they sound great and bizzarre when you're young and naive, but the second you listen to the electric eels or no wave (the 70s kind) or something like that i feel thier appeal drops. maybe it's just i don't dig this kind of thing anymore in general, but i feel if i wasa going to listen to fast as fuck spazz music id just go all out with dropdead or fear of god or something.

atsonicpark 07.29.2009 10:36 PM

yeah, I never listen to 'em either.. but I've been listening to them for nearly 10 years now so of course I'm a bit over them at this point. Haha.

chairman of the bored 07.29.2009 10:49 PM

bambi's dilemma was totally overlooked as far as i know. bloody shame, it rocked.

atsonicpark 07.29.2009 10:58 PM

overlooked? From what I've heard and seen, that was their most popular and well-recieved album ever. I personally know 2 people who hated Melt Banana who loved that record.

chairman of the bored 07.29.2009 11:00 PM

hm...i just dont remember hearing anyone talk about it /see anything about it on the internet...good for them, what do i know

atsonicpark 07.29.2009 11:06 PM

I distinctly remember it being on tons of "top 100" lists and all that nonsense. Also, shortly after it came out, they toured with Tool and they did the theme song for Perfect Hair Forever. They grew much larger in success afterwards.

Of course, they are still the ultimate proof that some styles of music will never be popular. For as good as they are, as many fans as they have amassed, and for as long as they've been doing this shit... they still play in small clubs and people's houses and shit, often. Granted, that may be one of their choices, but you know, they should be much bigger at this point. They reached their glass ceiling with that last album, I think, I don't see them getting any more popular than that.

I am pretty sure they don't make a living off of their music. Also, I read that they said they can't even tour Japan, because it's expensive and people don't go see them anyway. Weird...

batreleaser 07.30.2009 11:06 AM

yeah, it was their most commericla record for sure.

they're mega-popular in tucson where i go to school. the so called "hip" kids there seem to don't go past hardcore and thrash type stuff, and melt banana seems to be "wierd band" for all those dudes, prolly because they're still fast and thrashy and did a split with discordance axis.
