pay your favourite band (or the Kaiser Cheifs) to record an album

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...stry.investing

a new website/record label where fans pay from £10 to invest in their favourite bands. when they reach £100,000 the band record the album, give you a copy and 20% of the profits!

Maybe an idea for the new SY releases?

atsonicpark 08.27.2008 05:05 AM

...what?!

SonicBebs 08.27.2008 05:14 AM

its a new website/record label

bands sign to it and when they get £100,000 they do some work/record an album
interesting idea

SonicBebs 08.27.2008 05:14 AM

or, read the link

atsonicpark 08.27.2008 05:17 AM

I read it. I still think it's crazy.

MellySingsDoom 08.27.2008 05:27 AM

I'd pay to have the Kaiser Chiefs and Primal Scream killed.

Who the fuck needs £100,000 to record an album? All you need is a good live room, some decent mikes, and an engineer to get that stuff down on tape. No mess, most cheap and job done.

Even more so for people who record at home. A computer with a decent processor, some good onboard gear, and again, job done.

i agree. But its an interesting step for the industry and what seems to be fairley mainstream acts

atsonicpark 08.27.2008 05:31 AM

Right, Melly. I know guys who can make an album that sounds better than whatever bullshit LIARS just released with just a microphone and a laptop.

Hell, I've been recording all my albums on a computer mic for year and they sound decent!

Death & the Maiden 08.27.2008 05:43 AM

This isn't really a new idea. Einstuerzende Neubauten were (and still are, I think) doing something similar to this.

atsonicpark 08.27.2008 05:47 AM

For a time before I got a job, I asked $3 from people and I'd make a song for them. They'd give me lyrics or how they wanted the song to sound or whatever and I'd do it. Got about 40 responses. Was nice.

Nominated for thread title of the year.

And you could probably get it done for considerably less than 100K.
If the hitman took a DAT recorder with him, I'd pay a tenner for a copy of the recording.
That sounds like a much more constructive use of my money.

ZEROpumpkins 08.27.2008 06:50 AM

I'll do it with my thighs alone.

HECKLER SPRAY 08.27.2008 06:54 AM

I could give 1000 bucks to Polvo to make a new record. Really. I'm rich.

SYRFox 08.27.2008 06:58 AM

We should get a website started where people could give $15 to a band and they would play the song you want them to play.

Or even another website where people could give $20 to a band and they would THE RECORD YOU WANT. Howcoolisthat.

SYRFox 08.27.2008 06:59 AM

I don't know, that thing is kind of strange, isn't it?

noisereductions 08.27.2008 07:50 AM

I dont know. This could be a good idea for certain bands. SY, Flaming Lips or Wilco for instance?

atsonicpark 08.27.2008 08:01 AM

...Hm. No.

Nothing has ever stopped anyone from sending a band their money if they felt the need to.

PAULYBEE2656 08.27.2008 08:14 AM

ill give coldplay 1000000 euros to stop playing music forever... can this work in the negative?
