Never mind that as well. Dig something that "shouldn't" be dug around here? Bring it on! Otherwise it gets boring, especially considering that it's ten people at the most who post in this thread.

Too bad it's Lana del goddamn Rey, though. :D I prefer Roy Orbison's Lana.

Lmao.

For my part I’ve never loved Lana but she has a few properly amazing songs. Like Venice Bitch? I mean come on that’s a great song. WITH AN AMBIENT INTERLUDE!!!! Seems pretty fitting for an SY forum, that. Anyway cheers.

YAH WELL the Roy Orbison song also has an avant-interlude... It's a... noise interlude, like, uhhh... the one in "Silver Rocket". Yeah. That's the ticket! You just have to listen closely. Do some Oliveros deep listening. It's there...

where's the 2023 thread ???

R Ring (with The Breeders' Kelley Deal) will have a new album out in January! The new single can be seen here

Also Mono has a new Christmas EP, which will be released physically in March. That doesn't make any sense to me, but it's Mono

_tunic_ 12.29.2022 06:35 AM

oh wait I think R. Ring album was already mentioned somewhere because you will get a zine with it that features Lee Renaldo

sooo let's give my top 2022 albums. I don't have a top 500, I don't listen to so much new music, let alone that I buy. So here's a list in alphabetical order:

Chantal Acda & Eric Thielemans - A new score for Koyaanisqatsi
Alessandro Baris - Sintesi (and not just because Lee Ranaldo does the vocals on one of the tracks)
Black Ox Orkestar - Everything Returns
Brutus - Unison Life
Bert Dockx - Safe
Esmerine - Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More
Oiseaux-Tempéte - Live at Le Guess Who? 2019
Oiseaux-Tempéte - WHAT ON EARTH (Que Diable)
Thought Forms - Clean

For the record, there's still some albums I bought this year that are not in my favourite list (mainly Jessica Moss and Mono's), because I don't like them as much as the others.
There's also albums that I bought but actually never really listened to (In/Out/In, sorry). It's not on my phone nor on my bandcamp.
There's also some albums that are not in the list because I haven't bought them yet but I might still (mainly Dans Dans comes to mind, as well as Bruno Bavota & Chantal Acda)

what I listened to most however, especially on my train-commutes to and from work, were live sets by A Silver Mt. Zion and Dirty Three, I've pretty much randomly selected a whole bunch of their live recordings and stuffed my phone full with them. And even though there's plenty of other music on it as well, I keep on returning to those two.

Favourite new artist that I discovered in 2022:
Fågelle

choc e-Claire 12.30.2022 04:14 AM

1. Courting - Guitar Music
2. Ghais Guevara - There Will Be No Super-Slave
3. Alvvays - Blue Rev
4. Beach House - Once Twice Melody
5. Yawners - Duplo
6. Niños del Cerro - Suave pendiente
7. MJ Lenderman - Boat Songs
8. Sudan Archives - Natural Brown Prom Queen
9. The Beths - Expert in a Dying Field
10. beabadoobee - Beatopia

Dude. Dude. I hear what you're sayin', and dude: I'm not telling you what to dig. You can dig Donny & Marie for all I care. What I'm telling you is that some of what you dig is terrible. There is a difference, you dig. What kind of sonic friend would I be if I told you, "Groovy, dude, that's nice, now pass the joint"? That's lame, dude! If I believe what you're digging sucks donkeydongs, I'm gonna say it, and then you can tell me why I'm the fuckin' guy who's wrong! Dig?

Skuj 01.10.2023 03:10 PM

Or....if you don't dig what I dig, then rather than condescend from some high almighty perch of musical superiority, .....STFU instead??

That's the death of the debate, brother. Would you really prefer that?

By the way, contrary to popular belief, I'm not coming from a sense of musical superiority here. I now dig music that 20 years ago I wouldn't have given two shits about. I'm wrong all the time. But that doesn't mean something can't, in fact, suck donkeydongs. It's the nature of our relationship to art. :)

Skuj 01.10.2023 08:27 PM

Maybe in 20 years you'll "discover" Lana Del Fucking Rey. Then you'll realize how "wrong" you were in 2022.

Yeah, no, that's quite unlikely. :D:D:D

For the record, my fav album of 2022 was:

Boris - Heavy Rocks.

(Did I tell you guys that after 40 years in the Air Force, I now work in a Record Shop??)

I'm adding these two albums to my list of best 2022 albums, even though I discovered them only like a week or so ago:

This Shame Should Not Be Mine by GGGOLDDD

This Shame Should Not Be Mine - Live at Roadburn Redux by GGGOLDDD

As I said in the Listening thread:

If these albums weren't released last year, they would be ranked on the top spots for album of the year for this year. Very heavy stuff but very very good. Read a review/interview on them to find out more.

There's not many Dutch bands that I really like, very few actually. Belgians yes yes, French too, but Dutch nah don't like them, and don't know them, except some of the oldies like Bettie Serveert and The Ex. These albums are great though.

There's also a video stream for the live album:
GGGOLDDD "This Shame Should Not Be Mine" live at Roadburn Redux
