Polvo - In Prism.

Fuck yeah. It's so good. Different. but gooooooood

_slavo_ 09.09.2009 04:24 PM

For me, one of the best records of 2009. Catchy as fuck.

radarmaker 09.09.2009 05:21 PM

Listening to it now. Pretty sweet, innit?

Moshe 09.10.2009 01:19 AM

Good album. Is that Don Henley singing? :)

Beautiful Plateau 07.03.2010 04:41 PM

fucking genial

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 07.03.2010 05:39 PM

am I the only one who hates it?

Derek 07.03.2010 05:42 PM

I don't love it, I don't hate it.

pbradley 07.03.2010 05:44 PM

It has some good songs, it has some forgettable songs.

Damn it, Derek beat me to the "so-so" comment.

"A Link In The Change" is a great song.

atsonicpark 07.03.2010 06:03 PM

Eh, better than Shapes. But eh.

Count Mecha 07.03.2010 07:08 PM

The only one this is better than is Shapes. It's a good record, certainly a worthy addition to the Polvo mythology. I think one of the problems with it though is that it sounds too well recorded. Those earlier records had a kind of ramshackle presence to them, and that really brought out the zaniness of the songs, and it really allowed them to go wherever they want. These songs just sound really contained, inside the box.

Still a good record though.

Jeremy 07.04.2010 02:30 AM

I agree with Count Mecha; It sounds good production wise but sounds too produced for Polvo. The raw sound (Especially the ones Bob Weston recorded) was a big part of their charm.

That said, In Prism is still a great record I think. I go through phases where I like it and others times where I LOVE it. I think some of the stuff is among their finest work but I really don't like D.C. Trails at all.... That's probably my least favorite Polvo song (Not counting those pointless instrumentals like Passive Attack and some of the stuff off Shapes).

On some days I rank it better than Exploded Drawing but it's really a toss up and depends on my mood. TAL and Cor-Crane are my two favorites.

Did Bob Weston produce this one? If he didn't, then he should have.

Nope, this one was produced by Brian Paulson.

Count Mecha 07.04.2010 01:44 PM

It really bums me out that Brian Paulson produced this yet I have to criticize the sound of it. The guy record two of my absolute favorite records, Spiderland and Spinanes' Manos.

Beggar's Bowl does kick ass though.

yumopal 07.05.2010 02:28 AM

I've never heard their song until beggar's bowl
It's epic. after all I started to find their older albums

narlus 07.05.2010 01:39 PM

you guys are fucked. i've been following Polvo ever since their debut 2x7" came out on Kitchen Puff, and i think this is the best work they've ever done. hands down record of 2009 for me.

this.

Derek 07.05.2010 02:43 PM

Really? You think it's better than Today's Active Lifestyles, Exploded Drawing and the Celebrate The Dark Age EP? Weird opinion but cool.

atsonicpark 07.05.2010 04:36 PM

I think, soundwise, it's more of a continuation of what they were going for on the "This Eclipse EP" (especially TITLETRACK), which is one of my favorite releases. Still, there's just some riffing on here that doesn't do it for me (I mean, almost all the songs are like 5 or 6 minutes long so of course there's going to be some sections that don't do it for me so much). "The Pedlar" is definitely underrated.

Now if only Thinking Fellers would record a new album, the world of weird bendy complex strangely melodic brilliant indie rock would be safe and secure again.

Derek 07.05.2010 04:41 PM

I'd kill my parents for a new Thinking Fellers album.
