Keeping It Simple 05.26.2010 06:13 PM

Latest edition of NME.

It has a special feature on what it calls "the new American invasion". Anyone here heard of any of the bands featured? It's done it in a photo gallery way.

Here's the cover.

ni'k 05.26.2010 06:19 PM

now i know what type of person reads the nme. it all makes sense to me now.

Derek 05.26.2010 06:19 PM

The Drums are shit. The National are okay. Animal Collective isn't really "new".

HaydenAsche 05.26.2010 07:11 PM

I enjoy the National. Rest of them are shit for the most part. Surfer's Blood wasn't bad live but I don't ever feel like listening to them.

Oh, and Animal Collective? They're a few minutes behind it seems.

dionysusundone 05.26.2010 07:11 PM

p. much all these bands suck

Genteel Death 05.26.2010 07:46 PM

They put zola jesus in the ''radar'' section a couple of years too late, didn't they?

hevusa 05.26.2010 08:09 PM

does this mean NME sucks? or just all redcoats?

SYRFox 05.26.2010 11:49 PM

So the NME is basically a 6-month late version of Pitchfork? I mean, The National have been known for a couple of years even in France - and that's saying a lot.

exploding plastic candle 05.26.2010 11:53 PM

garge rock garage rock garage rock blah blah blah

but I really like titus andronicus. sue me

pbradley 05.27.2010 12:04 AM

The first time I heard, haven't listened, about The Nationals was when they opened for Radiohead.

True. They've been known for some time now.

Toilet & Bowels 05.27.2010 05:11 AM

i met one of the guys from the Strange Boys, he seemed like a nice guy and i think he has some band going with one of the girls from Finally Punk called The Carrots

i just listened to The Drums (least imaginative band name ever) they sound like a cross between the smiths and erasure.

atsonicpark 05.27.2010 05:22 AM

Just look at those fucking people on the cover. Oh my god. Embarassing...

LIAM'S BEATLES MOVIE: WHY IT JUST MIGHT WORK.

I thought for years, people were joking when they said they still care about Oasis overseas. Guess not. Shit band. That publication is SHIT.

atsonicpark 05.27.2010 05:23 AM

THE NEW AMERICAN INVASION? They're really grasping aren't they? Why can't they put THE FRENCH TECHNO OOMPAH-PAH SOUND on their cover?

I never knew there was an Etonian public schoolboy look going on in the US.

Keeping It Simple 05.27.2010 07:00 AM

Let's Go Surfing by The Drums sounds good. Actually most of the songs I've heard on their MySpace page sound good.

Keeping It Simple 05.27.2010 07:06 AM

I love this video.

Decayed Rhapsody 05.27.2010 08:19 AM

That video is pretty obnoxious and way too Brooklyn. Erasure is actually capable of writing an interesting pop song. These dudes are just annoying.

PAULYBEE2656 05.27.2010 09:56 AM

the nme used to be good until menswear appered on the cover. the national are shite, i am in the vast minority of folk who think so but they are dull as the drums !

The Strange Boys are a fun band, great guys also yes.

Torn Curtain 05.27.2010 03:03 PM

When I saw the National live they were really boring.

Satan 05.27.2010 03:19 PM

i wouldn't use the en-e-my to wipe my ass

dionysusundone 05.27.2010 09:25 PM

The National are fucking shit and have some of the worst lyrics ever
'sometimes you get up and bake a cake or something' oh my god fuck off

Keeping It Simple 05.28.2010 06:23 AM

Here's a Dum Dum Girls vid.

SuperCreep 05.28.2010 06:26 AM

what do you have against cake?

Keeping It Simple 06.08.2010 06:50 AM

The National do sound good. One can't help but compare them slightly to Interpol.

the ikara cult 06.08.2010 07:30 AM

I love being out of touch

GeneticKiss 06.08.2010 11:46 AM

So NME's criteria of good American bands is based around how English they sound?

The National are OK, but I don't think I could listen to them for too long.

automatic bzooty 06.08.2010 12:43 PM

the drums are terrible... and i usually go for that faux-surf indie pop bullshit.

derp. i love dum dum girls.

also i can't comprehend why the national are so HUUUUGE right now.

tesla69 06.08.2010 12:51 PM

dum dum girls and titus andronicus play around brooklyn but I've never head them, never heard of the others but frankly, any kudos from NME probably means they're disposable.

i love them, but i have to agree that their success is kind of baffling. i can't imagine so many people being into mopey sad bastard indie rawk like that.

Keeping It Simple 06.08.2010 03:00 PM

Here's what the NME thought of The Drums eponymously titled debut album.

http://www.nme.com/reviews/the-drums/11356

dionysusundone 06.08.2010 04:17 PM

I can't decide if I like the Drums or hate them

Genteel Death 06.13.2010 10:16 AM

Is it true that David Pajo joined Interpol?

Decayed Rhapsody 06.13.2010 12:11 PM

knox 06.13.2010 12:14 PM

he was in fucking zwan.

he's already dead.

Decayed Rhapsody 06.13.2010 12:49 PM

They also got that Secret Machines guy (their first EP was alright, and I remember thinking the first album was okay years ago). I'm totally uninterested in Interpol, but I wonder if Pajo will bring something new to the table.

Forgot that he was in Zwan... hahaha. Need to pay the bills somehow.
