Name 3 "contemporary" bands you'd like to see live asap.

Not necessarily your three favourite bands, just three bands/artists you'd like to see live asap. and SY don't count. Only "active" bands/artists count, so no hendrix , nirvana etc.etc.
Mines:

Tv on the Radio
Calla
Morkobot

Pookie 06.30.2007 09:21 AM

Well, living close to NYC i've seen most of my favorite contemporaries (SY, Blonde Redhead, Animal Collective, Lightning Bolt, TVOTR, Vooredoms, Liars, Dinosaur, Deerhoof, Yo La Tengo etc.) and am seeing a lot of other bands i've been waiting to see within the next few months but i guess i'd say:

The Dirty Three
The Arcade Fire, but not in some fucking huge seated theatre
Haino, by himself or in a collaboration

Glice 06.30.2007 12:37 PM

Can I be a prick and go for contemporary compositions? Because I'd like to see Ligeti's clocks and clouds, Wagner's ring [arf] and Penderecki's Threnody.

Regarding the band side of things, I'd quite like to see Fushitsusha (contemporary-ish), AMM (still going I think?) and MCR (no, seriously).

I would've said Faust but I saw them t'other week and they were quite easily one of the best 'rock' bands I've seen locally since Atari Teenage Riot a whole 10 years ago.

Savage Clone 06.30.2007 12:42 PM

I want to see the "new" Miminokoto with Koji Shimura and Junzo Suzuki.
I would also like to see Magma.

Пятхъдесят Шест 06.30.2007 12:45 PM

Hm.

The Ex
Einstürzende Neubauten
Boris

I suppose.

Glice 06.30.2007 12:46 PM

I'd quite like to see Salamander as well. I should get my arse together in the whole getting famous thing and arrange for them to be my support act across the mid-West. I don't care if you're not from the mid-West, you'll go where I tell you y'bastards.

Savage Clone 06.30.2007 12:48 PM

I'm from some serious Midwest.

LittlePuppetBoy 06.30.2007 12:53 PM

Sonic Youth
Dinosaur Jr
Interpol (they came to Ottawa a few months ago, but I did not know that until the day before)

Пятхъдесят Шест 06.30.2007 12:53 PM

Actually, the Twin Cities should be in a category all their own. The North, maybe? It certainly feels like the fringe of the Midwest as it is. Completely different feeling than other Midwest cities. In my experience.

Savage Clone 06.30.2007 01:04 PM

"Upper Midwest" is the term, I think.
I agree with you though; it has a different feel to it.

pokkeherrie 06.30.2007 01:06 PM

The one I want to see most are Boredoms and that's going to happen in october finally.

Other than them there's plenty of stuff I'd like to see once, but nothing I'm really desperate about. Birchville Cat Motel, Astral Social Club, Acid Mothers Temple, Ashtray Navigations, Borbetomagus, etcetera, etcetera.

StevOK 06.30.2007 07:03 PM

In order of me most wanting to see:

1. The Flaming Lips
2. Sonic Youth
3. Dinosaur Jr.

Great fucking list, thank god someone else agrees on haino. Boredoms are a damn near religious experience, amazing. And bardo pond would be amazing...

Everyneurotic 06.30.2007 11:46 PM

i was THIS close to seeing the boredoms.

even thought i wouldn't complain at all if a see the vooerdoms, i would certainly be more excited to get a chance to see the boredoms, with seichii yamamotor and hira.

haino...i don't know why everyone expects him to be the most easy going dude in the world and, when they get the arrogant artist he is, they complain and say "well, he WAS amazing, but he had this rockstar attitude..." SO FUCKING WHAT? if you all people knew how to play half the instruments he does and play guitar the way he does, you would be a stuck up son of a bitch too, so quit your whinning.

or better yet, if you're seeing haino and plan to complain about what a conceited prick he is then hand me your ticket, i would appreciate the show much more than you, i'm not asking for airfare or housing, i'll rob a bank and sleep in the streets to see keiji haino if necessary, just your ticket.

sorry, i had to get that off my chest.

drrrtyboots 06.30.2007 11:57 PM

His rocker attitude is actually what i respect more than anything. He's allowed to be like that, he's like a fucking grandfather to the japanese music scene and even the music scene in general depending on how you look at it. The man is and will always be a god.

Unfortunately the days of the true boredoms are over but the vooredoms really are fucking great, no matter what. Eye still has his insanity as his main instrument and that's all that counts.

Savage Clone 07.01.2007 12:20 AM

Indeed. Haino can be as conceited as he likes (I didn't get that vibe from him when I saw him anyway); he's got what it takes to back up that kind of confidence in spades.

sonicl 07.01.2007 01:09 AM

Bardo Pond
Keith Fullerton Whitman
Pan Sonic

and I'll echo Nicfit's Morkobot

Glice 07.01.2007 06:16 AM

3 time I've seen Haino. It's always been nothing short of utterly mind-blowing. Unfortunately, that's the sort of rhetoric that's pretty dull, but in this case it's true. I think he's quite justified in coming across like an arse, much like our very own Mark E Smith.

Stijn 07.01.2007 07:13 AM

Parliament Funkadelic !

Toxa 07.01.2007 07:22 AM
