Most Punk Band Ever!

I'm guessing maybe GG Allin. Not a band as such, but you know what I mean.

demonrail666 03.09.2007 12:11 PM

I guess a lot of this depends on how you define punk. Crass were in many ways the logical conclusion of a more political Clash version, whereas GG is more the ultimate Stooges style crash and burn version.

SynthethicalY 03.09.2007 12:14 PM

Sonic Youth.

demonrail666 03.09.2007 12:16 PM

I have to confess that I've never actually heard any of Crass' stuff, at least not knowingly. I keep wanting to get something by them but never really know where to start.

demonrail666 03.09.2007 12:19 PM

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Have you read Ian Glasper's book about them? It's meant to be excellent as an account of the whole 80s anarcho-punk scene in Britain.

demonrail666 03.09.2007 12:31 PM

I used to know a few people around the time who were deeply into the whole anarcho-punk-squat scene. To be honest, their humourless self-righteous did a good job of putting me off listening to stuff asspociated with it. It's only recently that I've felt any real desire to hear what I might've missed.

demonrail666 03.09.2007 12:40 PM

Yeah, I guess they were like a more political Hawkwind in that sense.

demonrail666 03.09.2007 12:47 PM

I didn't mean musically. I was thinking more about the fact that both bands came from the squat scene and extended that scene into a more communal, anti-establishmentist attitude towards making music. The main difference between the two probably had more to do with different attitudes to drugs than anything else.

demonrail666 03.09.2007 01:13 PM

In which case, it could be argued that Hawkwind are the most punk band ever. lol
