What if Brian Jones hadn't died?
What if the other Rolling Stones hadn't murdered him? Would we have Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile? Or would we have them but they'd be filled with sitar and other wild things? Would the Stones sound like the Brian Jonestown Massacre?
Under Brian's influence, maybe Keith would have stayed off junk and become an acid head instead. Maybe Mick would have been less of a socialite. Maybe Brown Sugar would have an Indian raga break instead of a sax solo. Your thoughts? |
the only good thing that would come of him being alive is the fact that the stones would have broken up years ago as they should have.
if brian had been around keith would still have been on the brown. mick would still have been a prissy bitch. brown sugar would have sucked. |
we might have had them but they would sound different, although my real guess is that he would have quit the stones and then form another band or gone solo and, depending on his level of ego-centritcness and number of yesmen he surrounded himself with, be either great or incredibly bad.
|
my guess is that he would have left anyway and gone off and done some flowery psychedelic bullshit. and just for the record, keith was doing smack when brian was still in the band.
|
Fools, he was already kicked out of the group when he drowned/was killed/died/whatever, nothing would have changed at all!
|
what if mick had gone solo in 1969?
|
These are interesting theories. At least to me.
I'd like to hear something really absurd and unfounded, though. Anyone? |

this statement seems to entail that the stones alienated him and eventually ended up firing him, and i believe what our dear record collecting friend is asking of us is what would have happened if things worked out with brian. which they didn't, thankfully. apparently he was a real son of a bitch. i know he beat anita and had a gaggle of illegitimate kids. |
I think Brian would have joined the Beatles. Paul would leave in a huff, George would be fascinated at having a kind of soul mate in the band, and John would choose to keep the band together and the Beatles would go on to make crazy psychedelic shit throughout the 70s.
|
sorry to be a smart ass but, murdered him means alienated? i thought gmku meant actually murdered cause that is a stupid fucking theory that some people actually believe.

do you not understand that the english language is flexible to a certain extent and that some words can be used to magnify the severity of a situation? |

i think thats fairly obvious |

NO, the lovely and insightful Cantankerous is correct. I was speaking metaphorically with tongue half in cheek. And stop being so damned contentious. Maybe you haven't caught on yet that we try to be cordial around here, for the most part. |
what if the stones stayed together and were still making albums and touring?

no i do, but if he happens to use the fucking word "murder", im goign to think thats exactly what he meant, because people do believe, that rolling stones, mick or keith or whatever, actually physically murdered him. And anyways, I think we are both wrong now, since it appears gmku is just fucking around. |

That's ridiculous! And Keith would wear metal bits in his hair. Right! Ha! |

People, people, can we all just get along. Brothers and sisters, what are we fighting for? |

There is one who got it right, and one who got it wrong. Let's set it straight: Cantankerous = right MadcrapLaughs = wrong |

just a suggestion. |
Any other thoughts, or did we exhaust this line of inquiry.
|
Velvet Underground might have picked him up. Now there's an interesting possibility.

That would make a nice album cover, actually.
|
let's just put it this way: if brian had prevailed, i wouldn't be listening to the stones right now.
|
Seriously? You don't like Between the Buttons, or Their Satanics' Majesties...?
|
Will anyone pay 500 dollars to see them in concert from way on top of some colliseum?
|
the early stuff is alright save for satanic majesties. the only reason i've even got a copy of that ego-tainted shit is because i like the cover. i love beggars banquet, although brian was in the band at that time he really wasn't involved.
|
Really!? I love Satanic.
|
My favorite album is either Beggar's or Exile, probably.
I do think it's a good thing that Brian left when he did. And then died, boo-hoo. |
I love BB through Exile, all that stuff. But that baroque period they had from Aftermath through Satanic also blows me away. Two very different bands, really.

But I think one thing that I absolutely cannot stand is when certain people claim that the band died with Brian. What-ever. |

You're right, they were jumping on the bandwagon, no doubt about that. I still really love that album though.
