Truthfully, I want to rhyme like Common Sense, but I did 5 mil, I ain't been rhyming like Common Since

jay himself more or less admits that he's shit, i'd listen to like water for chocolate fifty times before putting on some jay garbage :)

I've always loved that line.

But I don't think it's admitting he's shit.

But whatver.

Be is wonderful.
Common doesn't really see Jay though. and i love both.

Reasonable Doubt - Dead Presidents II. he took a hot line and made it a HOT song. ;)
In my Lifetime Vol 1 - (Always Be My) Sunshine.
Vol 2 Hard Knock Life - Hard Knock Life.
Streets Is Watching - It's Alright.
Vol 3 Life And Times of S. Carter - Big Pimpin'.
The Dynasty - Soon You'll Understand.
The Blueprint - Never Change. this one always gets me. "i'm still fuckin' with crime 'cause crime pays".
The Blueprint 2 - Fuck All Nite.
The Best of Both Worlds - never heard this one, always assumed it's shit.
The Black Album - Threat. good call, NR.
Unfinished Business - see Best of Both Worlds.
Kingdom Come - Lost One.
American Gangster - Success. Jay & Nas on the same track. each one doing his best not to get killed and embarass himself. hah.
The Blueprint 3 - Death of Auto-Tune. people who call BP3 a sellout album forget hip-hop heads loved D.O.A, Thank You and Run This Town when it just came out.
Watch The Throne - Who Gon Stop Me. THAT OUTRO WHERE JAY STARTS SPAZZING! SOMEBODY CALL THE COPS.

admittedly i haven't spent much time with his "smaller" albums to really be familiar with much more than the singles.

should i rank my top 5 fav Hov albums now? RD > BP > AG > BA > Vol.2

louder 04.21.2012 08:27 AM

and i shall not forget to mention i'm a big fan of Roc-A-Fella's early days, with Dame Dash and all.
Jay, Kanye, solo Killa Cam (Come Home with Me & Purple Haze), f'kn Diplomatic Immunity, Santana the Great, Freeway, The Dynasty, Bleek, Sigel, etc.
some of my fav music ever!

noisereductions 04.21.2012 09:08 AM

the albums with R. Kelly are mostly shit. Yes. But there's at least a handful of tracks between them worth hearing haha.

I actually really liked Blueprint 3 honestly. I mean "NY State of Mind" got kind of too much. And "Venus Vs Mars" and "Everyday a Star is Born" are kind of embarrassingly throwaway lyrics. But the rest of that record is pretty incredible.

oh and good call on "Success." What an opening: "I used to give a fuck / now I give a fuck less / what do I think of success? / it sucks, too much stress."

American Gangster is so probably my favorite Jay album so it's hard for me to really decide on a favorite track there.

oh and as far as Cam goes, Purple Haze is a total masterpiece.

louder 04.21.2012 10:08 AM

BP3 would've been praised a lot more if it was released by any other rapper, it just pales in comparsion to AG & WTT.
and i already know Jay's next solo album is gonna be his best shit in a while. he saved all the best verses and beats from the WTT recordings for that album.

American Gangster has been growing on me a lot lately.
the vibe reminds me of Ross' last two albums (AG is clearly a lot better tho), Party Life makes me completely delusional for 5 mins every time.
"she's used to one million dollar vacations, fuck y'all gonna do with that?". :)
Jay's music always motivates me to do something with my life.
the part on Who Gon Stop Me where the beat changes and Jay starts doing that fast flow pretty much sums up why i love him.
Quote:

Extend the beat Noah, two seats in the 911, no limit on the Black Card
Told y'all I was gonna go H·A·M 'til ocean was my backyard
No lies in my verses, please pardon all the curses
Shit gotta come some way, fuck, when you're growing up worthless
Middle finger to my old life, special shoutout to my old head
If it wasn't for your advice, a nigga would have been so dead
I'm living life til these niggas kill me, turn this up if these niggas feel me
I'm riding dirty, tryna get filthy, Pablo Picasso, Rothkos, Rilkes
Graduated to the MoMA, and I did all of this without a diploma
Graduated from the corner, y'all can play me for a muthafuckin fool if you wanna
Street-smart and I'm book smart, coulda been a chemist cause I cook smart
Only thing that can stop me is me and I'mma stop when the hook start, hold up

have you heard Diplomatic Immunity? it's my fav Dipset/Cam'ron related album.
the production sounds like the Blueprint. Cam'ron is the best rapper in Dipset by miles, but Juelz manages to keep up with a lot of emotion and charisma.
"Who Am I" almost reminds me of one of those emotional Ghost tracks.

noisereductions 04.21.2012 10:41 AM

yeah I've heard Diplomatic Immunity, but I don't have it. "Ground Zero" is one of the best Dipset songs ever. I do have the 2nd volume. Which I think is excellent. That might be my favorite Dipset album.

louder 04.21.2012 11:25 AM

fav song on every Kanye album?

College Dropout - Never Let Me Down
Late Registration - We Major
Graduation - Flashing Lights
808's & Heartbreak - Robocop
G.O.O.D Fridays - Christian Dior Denim Flow
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Runaway

noisereductions 04.21.2012 12:57 PM

College Dropout - Two Words
Late Registration - Drive Slow
Graduation - Can't Tell Me Nothing (or Stronger or Good Morning hahaha)
808's & Heartbreak - Amazing
G.O.O.D Fridays - So Apalled
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Power

louder 04.21.2012 02:40 PM

"So Appalled" is so epic. that and "Devil in a New Dress" made it so hard for me to choose.
Pusha's performance on the album was unbelievable, dude even outshined Jay-Z, but his tape/EP were just OK in comparsion.
i hope he will step it up for his debut album.

other than that, the GOOD Music collab album is one of my most anticipated projects of the year.
this group has such a promising roster - Kanye, Pusha, Q-Tip, Mos, Common, Cudi, etc.
i will be amazed if Kanye will top Watch the Throne. this guy never stops, year after year.

noisereductions 04.21.2012 02:43 PM

yeah when Q-Tip announced he was part of GOOD I pretty much lost my shit. That's gonna be amazing.

noisereductions 04.27.2012 06:49 PM

so I've decided that "I Know" is the best song of Hov's career so far. Is it a diatribe on the dangers of addiction? Is it the saddest breakup song ever?

louder 04.27.2012 07:13 PM

i hope Hov's next album will be an American Gangster 2. it must.

louder 04.28.2012 10:41 AM

with every day that goes by, i think more and more Blueprint is better than RD in almost every way. gotta reconsider my fav Jay album.

it is better than RD. I like RD a lot. But Blueprint is amazing.

louder 05.02.2012 04:44 AM

i just listened to Ye's discog all the way through again, and i must say he has improved so much since The College Dropout. sound-wise & rapping-wise as well, he went IN on Gorgeous.

louder 05.05.2012 12:56 AM

the remix of I Don't Like is the best trap piece Kanye has released yet by far.

louder 05.05.2012 11:13 PM

Nas may be better at making those rough street songs, but when it comes to bragging, Hov is untouchable.

"this is Jay, dissing Jay will get you Ma$ed
when i start spitting them lyrics, nikkas get very religious
six hail mary's please father forgive us"

More time listening to hip hop has led me to realize that The Blueprint might be the most overrated, swagga jacking album of all time. Ghostface did it first and did it better.... still a great album though, I must say

louder 05.05.2012 11:57 PM

Ghost might've done better over those Blueprint beats. who knows. he's one of the only few i would consider better than Jay after all.

an evening with viewtiful 05.07.2012 02:26 AM

As for the Kanye Question:

Spaceship- College Drop Out (how did no one else pick this???)
Diamonds From Sierra Leone- Late Registration
Can't Tell Me Nothin'- Graduation
Amazing- 808's & Heartbreak
So Appalled- My Beautiful Dark Twisterd Fantasy
Take One For The Team/Christian Dior Denim Flow- G.O.O.D. Fridays

louder 05.07.2012 03:17 AM

man i love the new Nas single, "Daughters". i think i've played it like 50 times since it dropped. you can definitely say Life Is Good is my most anticipated album of the year.

so in the last couple years you've decided you like Jay less, and I've decided I like him more? Interesting.

generally i consider Jay E to be the superior rapper out of the two.
however, Hov surprisingly outshined him on their only track together.
one of, if not his best verse in the last few years (not saying Jay E didn't do his thing).

I've come to think of him as more of a savvy benefactor than an actual innovator or 'genius'. I mean, he's good, but there are other rappers who deserve his position alot more than he does.

Agreed.
Jay Electronica is dope, he just needs to commit to being an MC and start giving us more material. Also, what happened to that Lil B collab we were promised?

well, i think there are (very few) rappers who are better than Hov. he isn't the most creative artist either, you're right. but he makes some of the best albums, no one can take that from him.
