Did anyone catch the latest Colbert Report? He just did a spot on the closing of CBGB's.

Any thought's or comments?

i didn't see it, but he also did a thing poking fun at john zorn a while ago.

Now, keep in mind, you can talk about The Colbert Report's mention of CBGB's, or just share fond memories, & any type of respects you'd like to give to the memory of CBGB's.

i was there for the last two shows saturday and sunday night, which were both great, but it was a little sad.

I saw a CMJ show there last year. I just wanted to see a show there before it closed, so that was cool.

They sell CBGB's shirts on sites that have nothing to do with CBGB's. I think that is silly.

Even Sillier is moving it to Vegas. I hope Guitarpro gets to rock the joint then.

^: I did find that a bit troubling that it was moving out to the cultural wasteland we call Las Vegas. Y not just find a better location in NYC.

Yeah, I was quite baffled hearing about that.

I just reserched out of curiosity, and it was The Dictators on the 14th, and Patti Smith on the 15th.

I've never been to CBGB's.

Me neither. I'm absent minded as to why they're closing it too. Can anyone fill me in?

But why can't they get another lease?

The owners of the property won't let them re-sign on their lease, due to the fact the above housing houses the homeless.

in other words, the owner of the building is an asshole.

and we never will be.

I dunno, CBGB's in vegas doesn't really appeal to me. It seems rather... restarded and tasteless. Even if they moved in new york i'd figure to check it... but the vegas decision is crass as ass.... but whatever, c'est le vie... or how ever you spell it.

Actually I think that's only for the CB's 13 Gallery next door where you can buy merch.

I was thinking about something, what if the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame were to have stepped in & had made some sort of deal declaring CBGB's a National Monument w/ city officials in NYC. Or @ the least, made some sort of tribute in their honor. I just can't believe they would let such an historical place like that & just turn into what you see in the fore picture mentioned above.
