Discarding rock music alltogheter
It really feles like it.I never really seem to get any pleasure out of it anymore, unless we are talking my idea of the titans.Booh!
|
You don't dig any rock at all?
|
Someone will always pull you back.
Being dismissive of rock is just as silly of being dismissive of music with drum machines or anything else. I went through a pretty huge "anti-rock" phase when I was 19-21, but there were still rock bands that could blow my mind even then. There always are. |
I concur with Dr S. Clone. I often shoot my mouth off about being bored of guitars, but they're such bloody pervasive things. I don't think of rock as my main thing these days, I seem to be in a very classical place right now (which is arguably a more ambiguous term than 'rock'), but I still come back for a bit of Yngwie now and then. Yes, Yngwie, you heard.
|
It's only rock 'n' roll but I like it.
|
rock is good. You can't reject an entire genre. I used to feel that way about rap, but now I'm listening to NWA and Dalek and Ghostface.
|
Drones i'm talking about not listening to anymore rock music.I'll dive into world music for a while.Again.
|
Sometimes your threads are shit.
|
These things are cyclical for me. I go through massive phases where all I want to hear is Indian classical music or folk music, but then the weather turns cold and I yearn for evilness and corpse paint.
|
It must be the autumn season. The changing of the skin.

I have a huge crush on burzum at the moment.I mean,HUGE!!!!

Rob Darken knows how to dress, doesn't he? He has ditched the corpsepaint, but still seems to love a good scowl. I love Graveland. Burzum is pretty good for giving good doses of the rock and the seriously non-rock if you're feeling conflicted. |
Scenes seem to become invigorated at different times. I remember indie being awesome, then rap being great (Ice Cube, PE etc) then sliding a bit, but at the same time death metal spawned its best stuff (early Deicide, Nocturnus), then indie was great for a while again, before dance took over etc etc etc. As long as there's people like APhex Twin, David Sylvian, The Fall, Sonic Youth etc as constant markers of greatness, things'll be OK. You just have to ride the waves, or something.

![]() Oh, he might be a hateful, hateful man, but he sure knows how to make an ace tune. I'm still all about this chappy, Malefic from Xasthur. ![]() |
Xasthur is my favorite of the newer Black Metal people. I have heard very little that I liked more since Burzum.
|
I mean, fucking hell!I'm entranced by Burzum at the moment.
|
I treasure my Burzum LPs. Some of my favorite music ever.
I used to also have that 6LP picture disc box set, but had to sell it a few years back. That was a beautiful item. |
It's either that or listening to indian/asian/whatever music at the moment.Nothing else does the trick.Never does.
|
![]() It's a little too compelling this copy pasting silly black/ death/ doom metal pictures. I'm quite fond of Nortt aswell, who, older viewers may remember, did a split with Xasthur. |
I saw Devashesh Bhattacharya, the Indian slide guitar master who studied under Brij Bhushan Kabra, last week. It was pretty damn amazing. He took off where Kabra started, and took the modifications of the guitar and the playing techniques to even more incredible levels. His brother and sister played with him too, and were incredible musicians in their own right (bro on tabla, sis on vocals and harmonium).
Glice: Nortt is pretty incredible as well. I have that split, but need more. |
So, apart from being loud and angry, which current Death Metal bands write the best tunes?
|
I think i was a bit taken aback by a video i watched last night.Awseome, awseome, awseomeness in spades.WOW! Too Good for my own exsistence.
|
Hip Priest:
I am more into black metal than death metal right now; I think Everyneurotic might be able to weigh in on that better than I. My current faves are Nortt, Xashur, Nokturnal Mortum, Maniac Butcher and Twilight. |
Thanks.
I'll look those up on the web. |
Nokturnal Mortum manage to get in a healthy dose of Ukranian folk melodies with their Black Metal, and I enjoy their music a great deal.
Politically, they definitely lean in a pro-Aryan direction, if that is something you care about one way or the other. |
It is something that would bother me, yes. Which is a shame, because their music sounds interesting.
|
i haven't really dived into usbm, i might sometime soon.
porky: i'm listening to gamelan right now. about the current death metal thing: right now bands are coming out with great stuff, especially the older bands like, say, cannibal corpse, whose last two albums are magnificient and i like even better than the older ones (although i must say i'm rediscovering butchered at birth), behemoth released demigod last year and it's a fantastic album, my current favorite dm band is cryptopsy, they play straight up dm but with an intensiry few can match. i need to check out the new suffocation album, i also need to check newer band. |
