the future of ODD FUTURE
i know a lot of you guys are a bunch of bandwagoners who don't care about OF anymore :(, but anyway..
BASTARD was an amazing debut. GOBLIN wasn't exactly the masterpiece i expected, but still really good.. in my top 10 albums of the year.. fuck what ya heard. and EARL was doubtlessly one of the best free albums in the last few years. even the og BlackenedWhite was dope. Tyler's 3rd album WOLF is coming out in May (only 6 months!!! swagswagswag). apparently Tyler is kinda moving away from horrorcore to the chill, synthy music he loves, like Toro Y Moi & N.E.R.D. http://pitchfork.com/news/44648-tyle...be-out-in-may/ Quote:
imo, this is better than any of his older music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7PEnj-8NHw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBYZIMIhdd0 |
Yeah I've still not given up on them. WOLF is sounding promising. Earl will be back eventually and the new Mellowhype album will be really cool.
Also I woke up at 9 to buy a ticket to their Glasgow show so I'm definitely excited about that. |
Yeah, that's what WOLF is apparently going to sound like.
|
Bastard is amazing.
Goblin is so so. Earl is the best. Blackendwhite is really good. at any rate, I'm happy about Wolf. I think it's gonna be sick. He always said that they weren't a gimmick, they just rapped about what they felt like. Now he feels like this. NERD is his favorite shit, so it makes sense he'd move in this way. I think Wolf will be better than Goblin. I'm happy. |
once they get out of that "shouting offensive things is funny" stage they might go somewhere.
|

well I think they're already somewhere, but I half-agree. I think that in a lot of ways shock factor got people to pay attention, but now it's time to put that aside since ears are on them. And really, I think they're gonna either elevate themselves beyond that (as hinted by Tyler) or not. But if the Mellow Hype album was any indication, that's certainly a rational possibility. |
![]() lol |
^he puts the ass in assassin. :)
|
Like, in English and shit.
|
Quote:
It wasnt the shock factor that got them attention, it was the fundamental talent. The age they are means they will obviously leave the lazy shock material behind and try harder |
Quote:
no it was the shock that GOT attention and the insane talent that KEPT the attention. |
bump.
not exactly an OF member, but Vince Staples (the guy who was featured on "epaR") finally got his first tape out. it's DOPE. ![]() |
Fuck this bandwaggonism you describe. OF is awesome. They've been responsible for some of the best hip-hop releases of the last few years. Radical, BlackenedWhite, Bastard, Goblin, it's all been great. The only part of the equation I am not on board with is Ocean. But disregarding him, I think OF has the potential to be the next Wu-Tang. Yeah, I said it.
I want more. |

thx for the heads up. |
HE IS BACK!! YESSS
![]() |
the new song is really boring though
|
uhhhh, sounds like some bullshit throwaway track he was just cooking up in an hour or so.
|
yeah that's what i meant the mastering was really awful like these kids are suburbanites their iPads should be able to record something better than that
|
that's alan m or something he's a faggot i will punch him if i see him we got beef
|
ODD FUTURE ARE BACK!
..well, at least Tyler. the other dudes can't rap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN-xq7t6pKw |
yeah they're getting better. the only thing they need now is Earl back in the group to take some of the spotlight from Tyler and balance it out more.
|
and yo dat new Hodgy EP. it's OF's most mature project to date and the production (Flying Lotus, Alchemist, Juicy J and more) is crazy.

the new OF tape just leaked and Earl has a long ass verse on it. fuck yeah!
|
just the last track off their new tape. the rest of the tape is such a letdown in comparsion.
EDIT: found a link - http://www.ddotomen.com/2012/03/15/odd-future-oldie/ |
Earl is a wizard, he just made a lot of rappers look like a complete joke with only one verse.
i NEED a new project from him in my life. |
most guys in OF are mediocre. only Tyler, Earl & Frank are killing shit.
but yeah a Wu-Tang comparsion is 2far. their legacy is untouchable. |

i will. ;)
btw dude have you heard of Jay Electronica? i'm kinda obsessed with this guy. he is easily one of the greatest MC's out there, up there with Jay-Z & Nas. he's gonna put out his first full LP this year (hopefully), he's been delaying it since 2009 or something. ![]() his only official project is a 15 min tape but it's really amazing. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWc4DG1s53g and this is one of the best rap songs in the last few years - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPRl0LzD_MA |
you have to. this guy puts all the Lil Waynes to shame.

"go to work go to church let your dreams die"
|
OF TAPE 2 didn't make much of an impression after listening to the first half.

![]() well besides Exhibit C + Act 1.. some of his best tracks are: Exhibit A (vid*) Shiny Suit Theory Renaissance Man Somethin' to Hold on To So What You Sayin' Dear Moleskin (vid*) his verse on The Day by Curren$y is undeniably flames. *unfinished (yep.. gotta get used to it when it comes to Jay E). you can get this unofficial compilation of all his essential material here: http://www.datpiff.com/Jay-Electroni...pe.215844.html as i said Act 1 is just a 15 min tape, however Act 2 will be a full LP. he is currently on Roc Nation (Jay-Z's label), his album is pretty much finished and Jay-Z loves it, but wants Jay E to make a single or it won't be released. |

A Milli views in three days..
quite impressive. OF are definitely buzzing atm. |
buzzing and being shoved down our throats by media giants are two different phenomena
i was not impressed with this effort or any effort since EARL and Bastard |
the Oldie vid is really hip-hop, for me it's the dopest thing they've done since that Sandwitches performance on Jimmy Fallon.
but yeah, not rly enough to convince me to buy the album or anything. |
Tyler came up outta nowhere with an almost classic debut, produced a top-notch album for Earl which didn't even look bad near all the incredible albums that came out the same year (e.g. MBDTF, SLLF & Pilot Talk), had Yonkers as the lead single which was a fantastic song + video, and of course the performance of Sandwitches on Jimmy Fallon was phenomenal.
then he had to fuck up his career by experimenting too much before he had the experience it required, instead of making the rest of the album dark, raw and influenced by 90's hip-hop. but now he's too much of a dickhead to admit he was wrong, thus keeps being a smartass and losing. he always whines about how much he hates "real hip-hop heads", so he doesn't even try to perfect his flow nor lyrics and attracts the wrong crowd. |
I'm looking forward to hearing Wolf, but I doubt it will be any good. Goblin and all of their subsequent mixtapes/albums were huge let downs. I'm still interested to see what Tyler will come up with this time around though. It seems like he's quickly moving towards self-parody. How can anyone take him seriously when he's dressed up in one of his videos as a centaur doing lines of blow?
|
Wait a few montha and nobody WILL GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ANYTHING.
|
Oldie was a dope song, I have no clue what you guys are talking about.
