REM split up
feel the void!
:fuckyou: |
seriously?
|
Quote:
yes, everybody hurts. |
Woah...that's some shit. Well. IT was fun while it lasted.
|
I was going to post a thread entitled RIP REM but quickly realized that I didn't give a fuck.
well, that's not entirely true....I had a minor chuckle over the preposterous notion that anybody cared, but quickly moved on to headier subjects such as "is Hollywood starlet such n such really bisexual"? protip: she is |
Woah! Who's Bi? COME ON SPIT IT OUT@ DAMMIT!
|
hmm. I half care. I like a lot of REM. BUt I havent even bought an album since um Reveal?
|
Quote:
the question is "split into what"? |
yes, reveal was the last one for me but still... great band.
|
Orange Crush! I like to youtube this on parties. I have two albums of them: Monster und New Adventures in Hi Fi. Both good records, if you ask me.
|

how dare you sir! they where at the cutting edge of alternative rock, never stopping to push the boundaries of rock n roll. |
If it's true then it sucks. I'm not that big a fan, but you have to respect that bands integrity. That seems rare nowadays to an old curmudgeon like me.

FIIIIIIIIIREEEEEEEEEHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUSSSSSSSSSSSS EEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

It's like saying that the Roman Empire has disbanded or that p4 processors are being discontinued. Oh-uhm I've been playing too much Civ II lately. But you get the idea. It's a non-issue. Unless there is drama and scandal and I missed it. The question that should interest Bono-hating boardies is "will U2 follow"? http://www.beehivecity.com/music/r-e...-follow568953/ (correct answer: who cares?) |

I'm ambivalent in other words. |
This sucks they were one of the last huge 80's indie institutions that was still active and relevant (Accelerate kicked ass!). They were kind of a beacon showing you could be on a major label but still do things your own way and make great music.
The fact that something this beautiful became a hit speaks volumes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qx9br5ISRpo |
Big deal. They had stopped being any good nearly 24 years ago.
|
New Adventures in Hi Fi is a good album to listen to now and again. But most REM albums are too bland to bother with in my opinion.
I always knew she was bisexual. |
Quote:
nah. Their 90's albums were good. Reveal was good. |
Its a tragedy, they got progressively more relevant after each album they did
just kidding |
Let's not think of what they've done recently, musically. That's now the past. It's a time to remember what they did bring us:
(Chronic Town) Murmur Reckoning Fables of the Reconstruction Kind of a classic trilogy with a nice preface. , |
the thing I like most about dinosaur-bands finally admitting impotence is:: the way it brings everyone together on the Internet.
the sweet aftertaste of doom really makes me tingle and I know it does you too. I can tell by the way your toes curl. |
standing too soon
shoulders high in the room |
Up is a fantastic album, really really good.
and i liked Accelerator and Colapse alot too |
enough with this bullshit that REM havent release a good record in years, Accelerate was fantastic and a better record than some bands will ever make.

hm i really like all their records. there is not one record i dont love.they are one of the most important band in my life and i saw them life 3 times and it was wonderfull.
but this split up makes no sense. what they are doing now for the rest of their lives? |
god, I hope this doesn't mean Bon Jovi is next. I really like those guys. such powerful music...and you can dance to it!!!
|
Bono Jovi would be the most powerful Irish-American supergroup EVER if they could just lay off the smack for a day or two.
|
does anyone else look at Bon Jovi and think "hmmm....I'd fuck that"?
no? me neither. just asking. |
About time. At least the decided to take that route as opposed to wasting fans time with crappy albums. < Just one of many ways of looking at it.
Was never that serious of a fan. Occasionally listen to Monster. |
part of me feels a little sad that one of my favorite bands will no longer be around making music. However, as said numerous times I don't think they have released anything that special in a long time anyways. I already have Green, Automatic for the People, Monster, Murmur (yeah I'll admit, this was the inspiration for my username even though I disconcertingly mispelled it), Document, Lifes Rich Pageant if I want to hear something fantastic by them. Those are all important albums to me personally. It didn't shock me.
|
i donīt get the point.
all their albums were so fucking good. show me one r.e.m record which isnt brilliant! their last one collapse into now i mean how can somebody not at least like it ? accelerate also hade his highpoints whats with up ? a masterpiece reveal ? allso good new adventures next masterpiece monster really good automatic ? allso good out of time allso good and the old stuff allso rocks so you have to be a very stupid republican purist if you dont like r.e.m fuck you ! |
so really, it looks like I just didnt buy the last 2 albums. I never really think of REM as a band I'm all that into. But looking at iTunes, haha. I really have gotten myself a lot of REM over the years. For the record, I think DOCUMENT is my favorite.

imagine the odds of that. hey, on a lighter note, I heard R.E.a.M. broke up!! |
yo, I hear dis guy fingerholed Kirk kobane 1 tiem!
that one girl tell him 2 n he did!!! rite in his pooper |
While it's always disappointing to hear that a band I grew up with has split up, I have to agree that they passed their peak a LONG time ago. That's not to say they haven't done ANYTHING good since the early 90s (I really liked Bad Day and The Great Beyond)...but I think that any influential/innovative band passes a point at which younger, more exuberant bands sound so much like them that they lose what made them stand out in the first place.
