I think not. There are so many Jaco Pastorius torrents at dime all the time. To me, it just seems he's surrounded by more buzz because he was somewhat good-looking. I don't care for jazz fusion & so I couldn't care less. His older material is better, and although he is a great bassist & a virtuoso musician, he's still not in the same class as legends like Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen (NHOP), Ron Carter, Jimmy Garrison, Reggie Workman, Stanley Clarke, Dave Holland, Charlie Haden or Scott LaFaro.
He's probably not even as good as Tony Levin.
As a creator of sounds, he's definitely no Charles Mingus either.
