agreed with the moon pix & myra lee assertions, especially tracks 1,2 and 7 from myra lee, and moonpix (2,3,4,5,6,10) and nude as the news, salty dog and sea of love.

I only know the covers album. I like just about everything on there.
|
She does a mean cover of Oasis's 'wonderwall'.
|
the covers album was the turning point of her career and music going from awesome to not.
|
I've never been massively into her at any point of her career but i rather like the odd song or two.
|
So do you count the Covers Album as awesome or non-awesome, T&B?
|
i think it's on the awesome side, althouh i think her previous records are more awesome, but to my mind there's a marked change in style on that record, it's much less dark and claustrophobic feeling than her previous stuff, and indicates towards the lighter feeling of her subsequent records.
|
I like the one where she doesn't sing, play any instruments, or go anywhere within a 20 mile radius of any recording device.

I disagree...I almost never listen to Dear Sir or Myra Lee. Covers is one of my all-time favorite albums. |

Im not a huge fan of cat power but i adore her version of "sea of love". It sounds so incredibly gorgeous and simple. Just her beautiful vulnerable voice and her strumming that harpischord. If she has a more beautiful song than that I'd like to hear it.

i don't think that should be considered as "Cat Power" (you know what i mean) cos its... covers, i think this option should be voided. i like You Are Free, and i kinda don't like the Greatest. Moon Pix is awesome too. |
metal heart.
|
Dito on metal heart.
Also "I am not what you want". |
Metal heart is one of her tunes that i rather like.
That i know her cover of 'wonderwall' was only played on the John Peel show but it's widely available for download. |

Cat Power is an untalented girlie feminist hipster poet.
not that i'm against feminism or anything |
Quote:
why do you say she is a feminist? and why is everyone so down on you are free? i love you are free and dear sir, but im not too big on the rest, although there are still alot of songs on the others that i like. i cant listen to you are free as often as id want to though. its too sad. |
feminist my ass. there is no feminism allowed in this household.
|
all the women are submissive in your house aren't they?

Bathysphere is a Smog song, not a Cat Power Song. (Of Course, you already knew that.) |
Quote:
cat power covered it though. |
That still doesn't make it a "Cat Power Song".
That would be like if someone asked me what my favorite Phish song was and I answered "Loving Cup", "Emotional Rescue", "Ramble On", "Good Times Bad Times", "The Real Me", "Take Me To The River"...etc. Yeah, they've covered all of those tunes, but it still doesn't make those tunes "Phish Songs". |
Quote:
she didn't write it, but it has become part of her reportoire, and how come you aren't pointing out who wrote all the various tracks from her covers album when people choose them among their favourites? |
Because almost all of those people mentioned that they enjoy her version of the song, or someone else mentioned the original artist, or they were obvious covers (i.e. Satisfaction). And also, because Smog is a great artist and if people like Cat Power's version of Bathysphere, they would probably enjoy hearing the original (in case they aren't familiar with it), so I took the opportunity to point out that it is in fact a Smog song (and an excellent one at that).
Why are you so defensive and attacking? I merely pointed out the truth and added info to the thread. |
Quote:
because i am a moody bastard. incidentally, i find cat power's version pales in comparison to the original |
