I can't believe this crap attracted 20,000 people

The Associated Press
NEW YORK (Jun 17, 2010) A free concert by up-and-coming Canadian rapper Drake (Aubrey Graham) of Toronto and pop band Hanson was cancelled Tuesday after twice as many people as anticipated showed up.
The show started about 6 p.m. with an opening act at Pier 17 on Manhattan's South Street Seaport, a popular summer locale for concerts. Hanson, the Tulsa, Okla., brothers behind the 1997 hit Mmmbop, and headliner Drake, whose album Thank Me Later debuted Tuesday, were to appear on stage soon after.
Organizers were anticipating about 10,0000 people but nearly 20,000 showed up, police said. Many people climbed roofs and started throwing bottles, as concertgoers mashed together toward the stage, police said.
Witness Tamika Johnson told the Daily News newspaper: "People in the front started leaving because they were getting crushed."
The concert organizers asked the New York Police Department for help dispersing the crowds around 7 p.m., police spokesman Paul Browne said. Two people were arrested on minor charges; six suffered minor injuries, police said.
The concert was part of the Sounds Like Paper series presented by Paper magazine, an independent magazine focusing on arts, culture and music. The magazine apologized on its website.

Judging by the number of views Drake has on YouTube I guess it's not so much of a surprise. I guess I just don't understand why it's so popular. It just sounds like musical diarrhea with a beat to me...

noisereductions 06.17.2010 09:24 PM

oh yeah.

Satan 06.17.2010 09:24 PM

now I don't know, cuz I've never discussed music with you, but I'm guessing that any hip hop albums you own are ones that have already been deemed "cool" for non-hip hop fans to profess their love for. Ammiright?

automatic bzooty 06.17.2010 09:41 PM

hanson still exists? um, why?

... i like how they put drake's real name in parenthesis in that article for no clear reason. aubrey graham. ahaha.

true, he's a mixtape leader. You'd think shows would be his $ income.

"im attracted to her, and her attractive ass"

how can you not like drake.

HE HAS A SONG WITH NIKKI MINAJ

Toilet & Bowels 06.18.2010 02:10 AM

drake fucking sucks, i've been listening to hiphop for 20 years which is longer than i've been listening to rock music and all the new stuff i hear nowadays just leaves me feeling alienated

narlus 06.18.2010 07:28 AM

the only plausible answer is that 95% of the people thought that Nick Drake was performing.

that's Lil Wayne. Not Drake. Drake's verse is later in that song. And he has many songs with Nicki Minaj. They're both in the group Young Money. That's like saying "Kim Gordon has a song with Thurston Moore."

me too on the 20 yrs, but oddly mid-00's to now is the first time mainstream hip hop has appealed to me since oh 1996.
