funny, Beck & SY were two of the only major label artists I could think of that were barely effected by being on contract.

rather nope.

I just meant, you don't see other artists on major labels who have the same freedom as Beck and SY. Beck was releasing his indie albums the same year that Mellow Gold came out on DGC. SY was releasing their SYR's while still signed the major. Meaning, the usual confines of a major didn't seem to stop either of them from releasing music elsewhere.

& by the way NYC g&f don't sound like a major label record, at all.

That, and Geffen allowed them to release their own stuff outside of it's own confines. When Sonic Youth signed to Geffen, it was the last independently owned major label. A big deal for the Youth at the time....

+ I look forward to hearing what Beck, Thurston, and Tortoise collaborate on. They are all immensely talented individuals. Should be fun.

the INXS album is so far my FAVORITE Record Club release. I think it's excellent.
