Thurston joins Beck's record club
|
promising!
|
holy balls
|
nice!
|
nice, im a big fan of Beck
|
Awesome!
Wish them good luck boys. |
wow. This is fantastic news.
|
to-to-tortoise? they still rock? weird...extremely weird.
|
I like when artists are free of their contracts.
|
Quote:
funny, Beck & SY were two of the only major label artists I could think of that were barely effected by being on contract. |
Don't tell Rob!!
|
Quote:
barely affected? how do you figure one can be involved with a large business and not be affected? |
Before starting the Record Club recordings, it was said that Beck would do covers of a Sonic Youth album ...
|
he covered evol.
|
just saw tortoise last sunday. they've still got it.

rather nope. |

I just meant, you don't see other artists on major labels who have the same freedom as Beck and SY. Beck was releasing his indie albums the same year that Mellow Gold came out on DGC. SY was releasing their SYR's while still signed the major. Meaning, the usual confines of a major didn't seem to stop either of them from releasing music elsewhere. |

& by the way NYC g&f don't sound like a major label record, at all. |

truth. |
i heard a rumor....
Yanni - Live at the Acropolis is what was covered.... |
Quote:
That, and Geffen allowed them to release their own stuff outside of it's own confines. When Sonic Youth signed to Geffen, it was the last independently owned major label. A big deal for the Youth at the time.... + I look forward to hearing what Beck, Thurston, and Tortoise collaborate on. They are all immensely talented individuals. Should be fun. |
well, crap. I really like the INXS covers.
I guess I should stop bagging on Beck now. was fun while it lasted. :( |
Beck + Thurston + Tortoise = music to my ears
|

the INXS album is so far my FAVORITE Record Club release. I think it's excellent. |
Quote:
oh.... my.... gawd..... it's so absurd, that it could be the album of the year. |
can somebody make that magically into a mp3 ?
|
live at the acropolis is my dad's favorite album... possibly by default, i think it might be the only CD he owns now.
|
also this seems relevant: http://whiskeyclone.net/papertiger/2...acropolis-now/
also also i'm with NR - if they maintain (or up!) this level of absurdity, this has some AOTY potential. no seriously. |
anybody listened to "bumps"? tortoise side project, I think.
|
"nobody" listens to Yanni. I think that's sort of the joke. It's absurd. Bumps IS a Tortoise sideproject, yes. On Stones Throw. :)
