I thought I had started an Eva thread but I can't find it...

This is the best show of all time.

I've watched it over and over, and with probably 5 people with me, all thinking like.. man, the first couple episodes.. this is going to be some slow, but decent, anime, whatever, nothing special. Then, FUCK. It just blows your fucking brain apart. Keep in mind almost all the actual drama doesn't happen until episode 13 or so. The last half of the series is just one earth-shattering psychological revelation after another, just completely blowing your brain to tiny fragments. The way the whole thing had built, this dynamic between the characters, and then the last two episodes... which, in a sense, seem like a huge fuck-you to EVERYONE, but at the same time, couldn't have ended the series in any better way. But then when you watch End of Evangelion -- which I think is one of the most disturbing, shocking, and insane things ever produced (and not in any cliche way) -- everything makes sense even more, and it's honestly kind of ... depressing. Just a holy-shit piece of art, historically significant, that will probably never be bettered, because I think a lot of the "problems" with the series (the cost cutting and whatever) add to the charm. Take the scene in one of the last episodes, where the last angel is in the grips of Shinji's Eva, and there is a freeze frame for a good MINUTE or so before anything happens. Completely silent. You're just waiting and waiting.. and when it happens, it's terrifying, soul crushing, mind destroying, and just awesome. But also sad. I've never seen a series pull out my heartstrings, and damage my brain, like this one. I have Serial Experiments Lain, Paranoia Agent, Boogiepop Phantom, all kinds of neat little "psychological and dark" animes, but man... nothing even comes CLOSE to Eva. Except maybe that video game Xenogears. Heheh :)

haven't watched the series in years ( started collecting but never bought them all ) but yes it's pretty fucking awesome. I should see if I can buy the set cheaper somewhere now and re watch.

....rei is like my ultimate anime cosplay fetish. I know she's pretty popular, but.. there is no end to the awesome. I'm just too white to do her properly though.

I'd like to makeout with a girl who was a really good rei match RP. That'd be hot. Sadly I probably look more like asuka. I guess it could be rei/asuka softcore.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is easily my favorite anime of all time. I used to watch a whole lot of anime, but I lost interest bit by bit in the the past couple years. But I realize that I don't need to, because I've already seen the best.

Wouldn't let me rep you, but yes, Neon Genesis Evangelion is fucking fantastic. Two of my other favorite anime are done by the same studio (Gainax): 'FLCL' and 'Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.' If you haven't seen either, I highly fucking recommend them.

Loved FLCL. Great music, awesome visuals...too bad it was so short.

Paranoia Agent and Boogiepop Phantom are two of my favorites must get this. I hope I can find it cheaps.

Yeah agreed, Neon Genesis was great! It's been years and years though. Gundam Wing Mobile Suit was always my fav!

My friend made me watch the entire series + The End Of.. a few years ago and I NEED to watch it again. One of the best things ever. So so so good. I should buy it.

Mind you, this morning I was thinking about starting an Evangelion thread.
Sad to say, I watched the whole thing with a quite annoying sub-par freakin' italian dubbing... I kept feeling a lot of stuff went lost in translation (especially in the last couple episodes), but I guess there's not much to do about that unless you know japanese...

I'm pretty sure Evangelion 2.0 is coming out on DVD this week. Anno is redoing the series in 4 movies; the first one has been out on DVD for a while and is pretty much the first 4 or 5 episodes redone with better animation. But I hear 2.0 is a completely different direction with new EVA pilots and different characterization (Shinji is apparently quite a badass)

TL;DR One more mindfuck of an ending I bet. And I will love it.

Loved Evangelion: 1.0 You Are Not (Alone). The minor tweaks and refinements, pushed it over the top. I only hated the shameless Pizza Hut and Doritos promotion. From what I hear Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance's events are drastically changed for the original series. I gotta download it asap, I gotta see what's up.

Yeah, Dead Leaves is the craziest anime of all time. Brilliant.

i watched it recently at the recommendation of atsonicpark & others, and it was alright though it didn't blow my mind-- maybe because i've seen these subjects before-- if i had watched it as a kid however i would have shat my brains, probably, like when i saw zardoz on tv-- blew my mind, wouldn't today. anyway, i liked how each pilot is some kind of traumatized kid with a shitload of issues. the german girl's personality reminded me a bit of satancankerous, ha ha ha. but i digress.

what i liked the most was the stuff around the series-- the fact that hideki anno wrote this while he was struggling with his own serious depression, and how this whole show is a huge metaphor for digging himself out of the hole, how all this battles are really going on inside his head.

this whole thing could have moved up a lot faster if some animes didn't have this horrible practice of eating 2/3 of the episode showing you what happened before, and then what's happening next, living you a little bit of action only in th emiddle. jeezus. inuyasha is the worst offender of this kind i think-- there might be others.

but anyway, good story, interesting characters, good delving into the psychology of childhood trauma maladapted people saving the world from "mysterious forces" which are in another time & language los heraldos negros que nos manda la muerte. ah, fucking depression...

Watch Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.

The new character is okay, not my favourite. There is a new plot to this one and it brought a tear to my eye, it was so beautiful.

It's a fine show, but that's about it.

It's definitely around. My roommate grabbed it off of The Site a few weeks back. I still haven't watched it because I still haven't watched the first one.

Isohunt. Look for the mkv files. They always have dual audio.
