I want kids...

...just so I can take them to a Sigur Ros show.

m^a(t)h 07.10.2006 12:26 PM

i would be happy just going to see sigur ros. probably never will though, so i cry every night...

afterthefact 07.10.2006 12:36 PM

It is like the best music ever created. The idea that it took thousands of years of people making music before they came up with this almost blows my mind...

Rob Instigator 07.10.2006 12:41 PM

I have seen sigur ros. I enjoyed it. I preferred Godspeed You Black Emperor though. they put on a great show.

Yeah, I love it when bands berate a capacity crowd, 97% of which are probably far left on the political spectrum, for the actions of "YOUR President." That's really cool.

m^a(t)h 07.10.2006 01:23 PM

GYBE! is pretty notorious where I live. They have gone to Carnegie Mellon University twice I think (one of the best schools in the country). I never went but heard some stories...

They would get a chalkboard to write on and during the show write:
Alienation 101
Anger/Disgust 201
Individual/Community Skills Building 301
Hope 401
Schools that look like prisons prisons that look like malls 501

And on the way out Efrim wrote on a blackboard "Drop out tomorrow"

Another time Efrim talked about how CMU helps develop bombs and such...

"Self-righteousness w/20 minute crescendos 101"

Cantankerous 07.10.2006 01:49 PM

i saw them on my birfday and at coachella.

Rob Instigator 07.10.2006 02:06 PM

they are amazing live.

Some people call GYBE! and Bardo Pond and Fly Pan Am and those bands POST ROCK

but I call it

COUCH ROCK!!!!!

best suited to rocking on the couch!

Rob Instigator 07.10.2006 02:07 PM

and while I do love sigur ros, love love love, they can be a tad bit sacharinne to my ears.

love them though. love them,

word.

EDIT: you were talking about GSBE!, right?

noisemachine 07.10.2006 02:40 PM

I saw Sigur Ros at Coachella this year and thought they were great, but I would really prefer to see them in a smaller venue and a full set. Can't wait til they tour in the states again!

true, although i do like their music's calmness and ambience they seem a bit egotistical at times...

Daddylikes 07.10.2006 04:29 PM

When Sigur Ros toured the U.S. for the first time and was still playing clubs, I got backstage only to find the greatest backstage scene I've ever witnessed.

The band was completely silent, doing lines of cocaine while listening to their own recordings remixed.

If I didn't love their music, I'd love them for this level of pretentiousness alone.

Yes.

afterthefact 07.10.2006 04:33 PM

good, good...

Savage Clone 07.10.2006 04:37 PM

I have never see Sigur Ros, so I have never witnessed that kind of stage banter from them.
They don't really do it for me though; a little too sweet. I sold my copy of the Agaetis Byrjun 2xLP recently though, and discovered that stuff is getting a pretty penny now. I bought it when it came out, only listened to it twice in a few years.

That would explain why their music sounds like 5th albums. I've had the misfortune of seeing this band twice, once because people assured me they were great and that I'd heard the wrong recordings, and the second time because people assured me that 'I wasn't listening' the first time, or something like that.

Both times I hated them. Really, really hated them. I don't know who it was said it, I've a feeling it was SC, but they truly are the new Enya.

Sorry, I have mental problems that mean I am incapable of listening to the part of my head that says, "Don't write that, it's really not that important you say it, is it?"

I didn't say that, but I kinda wish I had.
No matter how mean it is, that's funny.

It's totally important that you write that. At the risk of making myself even more unpopular than I already am for being 'new', Sigor Ros are, at best, unintelligent whale song. Respect to Glice for bringing up their direness.

Sorry.

HaydenAsche 07.10.2006 05:04 PM

I don't know. I used to like them but it is oh so boring to me now. Fucking endless shite.

Cantankerous 07.10.2006 05:26 PM

Pigfucker music.

jon boy 07.10.2006 05:28 PM

they are pretty dire. fall asleep at the wheel music.

Norma J 07.10.2006 07:43 PM

afterthefact, do you like the band afterthefall, at all?

m^a(t)h 07.10.2006 07:44 PM

I think everyone thinks they are these pretentious assholes who really think their music is emotional and blah blah blah. But if you read what they have to say Sigur Ros says that really all they do is jam on 4 chords and experiment a little in the studio. No one knows music theory except the keyboardist who writes most of their stuff. They dont think of their music as a religious or spiritual experience. Remember they are all atheists. I think the fans fuck it up for them but whatever, they make me happy.

here is a (paraphrased) quote from Sigur Ros "People seem to think we are this really serious band, but we really aren't. we hang around and make fart jokes and stuff. we aren't serious at all."

by the way, i fuckin love sigur ros, and love GY!BE even more. people make call it pretensious or whatever you want, the music is fuckin mind-altering.and by the way "schools look like prisons... prisons look like malls" is (now) a lyric in a Silver Mount Zion song...not all that wierd, cos of Efrim

I love godspeed's music (when I'm in the mood) but they were so bloody whiny. I read an article with them once and the band were saying how they didn't want anyone buying their music from big stores under any circumstance and to always try to support your indie store and so on. Then they started saying that maybe it was ok to buy their stuff from big stores sometimes but they weren't happy about it and so on. They just went around in circles until they weren't too sure what they wanted.

Actually, I know what they wanted;for people to buy their records, go see them live but to get given out to by the band for doing so! Jesus!

It's a pity that they didn't do another record though. I really liked the last one.
